Knitting by Design: Gather Inspiration, Design Looks, and Knit 15 Fashionable Projects Hardcover – Illustrated, November 5, 2013

I bought this book for myself to find inspiration and some easy patterns. As a 19 yr old, I find this book has a lot of patterns that are on trend/in style and will be for a while. There is definitely a more youthful presence accompanying this book, therefore I would say this is what I was looking for. I found some of the pages to be beautifully photographed, but fluffy and unnecessary which I think might frustrate more experienced/serious knitters. Since there is a focus on design as well as knitting(which I seemingly forgot, and got frustrated with) there is a lot of explanation into the thought process behind each design/pattern.This would be a good book for anyone whose ever been in a store like Express, Gap, Forever 21 etc. and said "$30 my a**, I could make that" It is much less intimidating compared to other knitting books I've read. I'm super excited to get started!

This book was written in such a way that a new knitter can be inspired to knit a simple article or go on something that takes a little skill. I think the book has helped several of my knitting friends to realize that you can read a book like this and try something even on your own. I recommend this book to new knitters and those of us that have been knitting for years. It is refreshing to look at her new ideas and designs. The book is very well put together and I keep it out for anyone to pick up and look through for ideas. Most especially when my knitting group is at the house.

I loved this book so much I got one for my friend too.The images are beautiful and different from most knitting books. As a designer I was happy to see the care put into the photos and layout, it made it that much more fun.Plus, the patterns are so modern and unique.It seemed like there were more patterns than I had thought from reading the product description so that was a plus.

This book is gorgeous! From her choices of yarn to her unique projects, Emma has compiled a beautiful list of projects for beginner and veteran knitter alike. There are some projects that I've already returned to again and again. She goes into great detail on why she chose certain stitches and certain yarns, helping those of us who are newer to designing get a little insight into what it takes.

I have enjoyed reading about the design process: the idea, the intent, problems and unexpected results, etc. As a dabbler in knit design, I found myself nodding in agreement, as well as a sense of knowing what I have experienced is very much the normal routine in design! Some really nice patterns and inspiration. Very pleased here.

A gem of a little book that will inspire you to be more creative. Emma goes on to explain how she went on to design the various garments and the thoughts behind the creative process. I love that this had me looking at making more of my own inspiredgarments. What a little treasure...this needs to be in everyone's crafting library

As a new knitter, I found this book to be very helpful. The abbreviations and terms section and yarn selection section are especially helpful to me. There are several patterns for the beginner. The book shows me what is possible with practice and an open mind to different designs and patterns.

disappointed with the projects I have been knitting for 12 years and I loved the look of this book, but there wasn't one project I would do, all of the projects were kind of hipster items that I would never use or wear. The art design is very nice though and it is pretty to look at.

Nicely written and very good images... it looks like someone has taken the time to, not only wirite easy instructions, but also to take care in the pictures shown...So far I'm in love with the book and looking forward many of the patterns shown
