Is this IR light solar power compatible?

The light is powered by a 12-volt, 3-amp, plug-in power supply. If the power supply is plugged in, the light is on. It is not automatic in anyway. It doesn't even turn itself off when the sun comes up. What you want is possible but it is not an included function. Theoretically, you could have a solar panel charge a 12-volt battery and power the illuminator directly from the battery without the supplied power supply. You would need a battery that could power the illuminator during dark hours with enough reserve capacity to handle cloudy days. You could likely get away with a 12-volt, 22ah gel cell battery, a100-watt, 12-volt solar panel and a 10 amp solar charge controller. The 100-watt solar panel would provide enough power to power the illuminator during daylight and simultaneously charge the battery. Note that although the unit is supplied with a 3-amp power supply, the illuminator likely uses less than 2 amps. Hope this helps. P.S., the specified 120 foot range of the illuminator is a tad optimistic.

Will these ir illuminators operate off of 12v ac? it'd be nice to be able to plug them into a low voltage lighting transformer.

These operate off of 12DC and would not work on your existing low voltage lighting system.

Why are these shipping with PoE connections?

Not sure what PoE connections are but the light has a short 2.1x5mm wire connection on it and the 120v outlet plug has the male side of it plug the two together plug into the wall and if the light sensor is covered(daytime) or in the dark it will turn on u will see the red led's light up. The light is amaizing by the way huge amount of light makes awesome nightime video. U can see evrything with this light
