Very lucid. This book is directed at the average reader. Hawkings says there is no need of a creator. There will always be something coming out of nothing. The Universe may expand for ever, or it may end in a big crunch. Just the opposite of the Big Bang. There may be a multiverse, even. These essays educate, amuse(yes) and and elucidate. The author's affliction (Motor.Neurone Disease ) has never held him back. You never feel sorry for him. You say "hats off to you,sir "

The book is very interesting, gripping and thought provoking. It has an amazing blend of philosophy and scientific analysis of high order in reader friendly language and also print. It's a great work no doubt and can be read by all for proper understanding of the reach of science and human brain into the universe and ourselves as part of it.

And the quality of page material is really bad.
The grandest question Physics is facing today is how to combine General Theory of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. Most of the chapters of this book describe the attempts of author towards solution of this problem. Hence this book is for those who know about these two theories or at least the problems in the unification of these theories. The concepts such as 'sum over histories (Feynman)', 'imaginary time' , 'baby universes' are really difficult to grasp. So go for this book if you are a pro in this area......And the quality of page material is really bad.

A different experience
It's pretty different from the other conventional books regarding scientific topics as it contains essays & lectures by Hawking. A must read though.Provides an insight into the life of the great physicist & his discoveries.
