Product description CD: John Fogerty,Long Road Home Review Simplicity; it's harder than it looks. It may seem amazing, but at one brief point in the early 70s Creedence Clearwater Revival were the biggest selling act in the WORLD. And it was all down to hit after hit written by the man with the common touch, John Fogerty. This isn't in any way meant to denigrate his achievements. The ersatz blend of 'swamp rock' (Creedence were all San Francisco bay area residents!) was born of nearly ten years of hard gigging and a deep love of 50s blues and rock 'n' roll. Like I said; it takes hard work to be simple...This compilation marks the first time that both Creedence's AND Fogerty's solowork have been combined on one disc. It also celebrates his return to the label that he so acrimoniously split with nearly 30 years ago. But while his sidelining of his brother and bandmates may have been a little heavy-handed, the songs make the best argument as to why Creedence WERE Fogerty. Each one of their tracks ("Up Around The Bend", "Proud Mary", "Down On The Corner", "Bad Moon Rising" etc. etc.) along with his excellent solo hits ("Old Man Down The Road", "Centrefield") is ALL killer. And all delivered with that howl that was made to cut through the AM static on your transistor radio. What's more, the live tracks taken from last year's world tour show a man whose voice has lost none of its grit and fire. Just about everything recorded by this man is worth checking out. But this is a very fine place to start. --Chris JonesFind more music at the BBC This link will take you off in a new window

Simply the best.
This is a must for any fan of John Fogerty, or for someone who wants to introduce themselves to this great man and inventor or popular southern/swamp rock. He is an underated songwriter and sadly when people think of artists who are socially conscious, Johnis rarely mentioned. All one has to do is play track 20, 'DEJA VU'. This is my favourie solo song of his and is my favourity song with a message. Given the recent announcements from the USA and UK etc to step up it's middle east campaign, this song is more fitting than ever, (it was written 10 years ago following Iraq/Afganistan. Anyway, the sound is the best one can hope far. The best of CCR, the greatest in my opinion American southern/country rock band and one of the better bands produced between the late 60's and early 70's, you hear all of the hits, ranging from the classics: 'Proud May', 'Bad moon rising' and 'Green River', down to, occasionally, some of the lesser known hits, such as 'Run through the Jungle' and 'Sweet Hitch hiker'. John's best solo work is also available, from the incredibly catchy and totally American 'Centerfield', down to his 80's success in 'The old man down the road'. It also contains some live tracks, the stand out being for me 'Bootleg'. His voice is one of the best in rock, top 20 without a doubt, and it is unique; as soon as he speaks one line you picture the deep south and the bayous. 10/10.

Southern rock at its best
Ahh nostalgia...owned most of these tunes on vinyl many years ago and hearing them all again brought back so many happy memories.Although they have been digitally remastered its been done well and sound quality is excellent fave tracks Bad Moon Rising and Old Man Down the Road but not a dud to be heard and great value at the 4 quid I paid (new).

An old friend!
It was for my husband who had previously owned this CD but it had been damaged in an accident. He had liked it so much that he wanted to replace it.

Building up my John Fogerty collection.
I only "rediscovered" John about a year ago [always liked CCR] so have been adding anything I could lay my hands on [at a reasonable price] and have been quite fortunate in gathering some really good stuff. It doesn't put me off that there is a lot of duplication, sometimes it's different recordings. This collection is excellent [25 tracks] as is the DVD of the same name.

Return by the Master
What an album from my favourite ALL TIME singer, songwriter and guitarist. Hes out of of this world. This is first full rime concert when emerging from his sabbatical. ("friends from recording producing and band mates")

Not too long a road; but a pleasantly winding one
Many boyfriends ago, I had a huge multi-cd ohmigoodness Creedence / Fogarty compilation which had every CCR track on it you would ever want to hear. Problem was, it had quite a few others tracks which I didn't want to hear, so I seldom played it much beyond the middle of the first disc. Happily, some ex-fella nominated it as 'his' during some great splitting-upness, so the problem was taken out of my hands! When I caught the tv ad for this new compilation I was intrigued, because it covered most of the CCR bases without seeming so long that I'd die of fossilisation before reaching the end. I admit it: Bad Moon Rising is a big reason for buying this disc, but so is Born on the Bayou and Up Around the Bend. In fact, that last one has me gambolling around the office, chirruping away when I should be working...The pleasant surprise with The Long Road Home is that the live tracks and the John Fogarty solo songs are in keeping with the CCR stuff, and they are neither self-indulgent additions nor overt, time-wasting fillers. They add to the experience, and mean I've found some new faves to add to the list of old faves. Mind you, I could've done with Rockin' all over the world (again). No compilation gets it 100% right, but this one is very close. Upbeat, pacy, and a good selection of music. And thankfully it doesn't go on to multiple discs or for half a dozen hours, so you can play it end to end without needing to hit the FWD button every five minutes. Probably not one for a CCR afficionado (but hey -- you have all these tracks already, right?), but an excellent introduction to the band and a perfect way to get your hands on Bad Moon Rising, should you feel like howing at the moon.

Really good collection of the man and his music
Big fan of Creedence and of John Fogarty. This is a really nice collection, lots of big hits, live tracks, really nice as an introduction to a great artist.
