Sturdy, simple, easy to use. It will do the job
My initial impression is positive. The machine seems quite capable of doing what it is supposed to do. As received there was a small amount of rust on the bottom of the cast-iron base but nothing to fret about. The gear mechanism feels a little rough but I'm expecting it to improve after the machine has been used for a while and the cogs have worn a little. The usefulness of the machine depends to a large extent on your being able to attach something to the output spindle. On the machine I received, the spindle is just under 9.7mm across the threads; i.e. this is the maximum diameter so any bobbin with a hole of 9.7mm or larger should slide onto the spindle. The spindle will pass through the centre of an ETD39 bobbin easily (indeed I had to wrap some paper around the spindle to take-up the slack) but it is far too fat to pass through, for example, an EFD15 bobbin. Since I will need to wind onto small bobbins sooner or later I intend to create some custom attachments for the spindle -- one attachment for each bobbin size. The base is cast iron and has three screw holes. There is a wheel around which a drive belt could be slung if you felt inclined to motorize your winding process. When the winding handle is released, there doesn't seem to be any slippage -- the cogs lock in place so the coil doesn't wind or unwind under the influence of gravity.

Sturdy and reliable
Delivery was fast and it was well packaged. The gears are plastic and there is a wheel to allow attachment to a motor. The arm is too long for my uses and will be shortened. I am not sure what the the plastic bits on the arm are for but that does not really matter. It is all I need to wind guitar coils with the option to motorise if I want to. It seems a sturdy bit of kit but it needs to be screwed down to a base. The counter works effectively, I believe at an 8:1 ratio.Overall I am happy with the machine. It does what I expected at a reasonable price.

good winding machine with some gripes
sturdy little machine. Plastic gears but look up to the job. When it works properly it's very good. Main problem I have is the mechanical counter... sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The reset is a bit hit and miss. The machine can be used in 1:1 or 8:1 per turns of handle. It doesn't set up properly as in book.. will need to modify and find a reliable counter.

A good piece of engineering
I needed to wind a pickup coil for a seismometer I am making and I did not fancy counting 2500 turns hand wound. This is a very solid and heavy device. The gears run smooth and you can choose to wind at a 2 speeds. The counter is re-settable. I am THRILLED!

Amazing good value
This is one very nice Coil-Winder. It is well engineered, smooth operation, very easy to use. For its price it really is amazing value for money.
