I have heard Mahabharat since my childhood from my grandmaa and from speeches at temples. There is nothing I dont know about mahabharat. But this opinion was shattered after listening to Sathguru's telling of Mahabharat. He starts with an introduction to time. How ancient people in this land had the wisdom about time, astronomy, space, earth, solar system much before they were discovered by Europeans. Then he informs the audience that while listening to Mahabharat one should not attempt to judge who is right & who is wrong, who is hero & who is villian, your focus should be more on inferring how people reacted to their situations and in what way we could learn from them to apply in our lives. Then he starts narrating Mahabharat. It is mind-blowing to hear from Sathguru the whole story of Mabharat in a typical style of his own filled with humour, emotion, clarity and with no exaggeration. Generally we have heard Mahabharat narrated from a religious point of view in which certain uncomfortable details are avoided. But Sathguru does not spare anything. For example he shares about on what the arrangement made for Draupadi to share bed room with her five husbands and what is the punishment to a pandava brother if he steps into Draupadi's bed room when it is not his turn. After completing each day's rendering of the story, Sathguru takes questions from the audience. Here and there, there are also musical performances. On the whole it is one of a kind experience which one should not miss. Even if you have heard or watched Mahabharat, you will still be fascinated to hear it from Sathguru. Especially encourage children to watch these CDs instead of the clumsy TV serials or cartoons on Mahabharat so that they would get the proper perception of Mahabharat.
