Hi, I am not sure about the preamp, I did try with the phantom power that showed up under "frequently bought together" connected to my "acoustic" brand amp, it worked well. so you should be good I guess. The C411/PP needs 'phantom power', so it won't work from a 1/4" socket (unless it provides power, which would be weird!) The alternative C411/L provides a professional three-pin mini XLR connector that fits the body-pack transmitters of all AKG wireless microphone systems. May not faulty

I bought more than 10 akg c411pp and c411L but nothing was a faulty one. I assume who reviewed here want to connect it directly to the mixer. This is only to use with wireless transmitters or phantom power adapters. Try connecting to those. I have my oldest which I am using about 10 years now. I had to change the cable but it's working perfectly. One more thing- don't expect support from Harman Service center. I approached them to change the cable but they were reluctant to do so and asked me to buy a new one. One of my friends did that job for me and it's working well now.

Is not compatible with standard connections. Amazon does not sell any helpful adapter. And worst, it does not work. I have no options to return. Horrible. Amazon is perfectly horrible.
