Very dull. Needs sharpening.
It arrived with a very dull edge and was not useable until I sharpened it with a belt sander. Forget about hand sharpening it, it would take hours of work. Once sharpened it worked great, Gave it five stars because the price is reasonable.

Works
Arrives dull. After a bit of work, sharpens well. In use retains edge. Using to repair some rot on log cabin.

Needs Sharpening For Wood; Great For Gardening; Needs a Grip
Saw something like this used by a solo tent camper in the snow and cold. Both a trencher and a hammer for tent stakes. Looked useful. Not too expensive.Upon arrival, as you can see from the picture, the blade is not sharp AT ALL. It's basically for trenching in dirt to guide water away from your tent. Or roughing up your garden soil.If you want to carve wood, you'll need to grind the edge to sharpness. But who carves wood? The other thing I'd do is add some sort of grip assistance, like wrapping a baseball bat or a tennis racket with grip tape. The wood handle is grooved, but overall, the round handle is smooth. Could use some "grippiness."I added this adze to my collection of hammers. I like it.

Dull
Seems the steel is good, but it arrived very dull and just bruised the wood.

It's a really nice tool but......
I've posted before and after pictures of the edge. It will take work. You can't use it for its advertised uses without a lot of work. Out of the bag it is as dull as a butter knife. The edge is blunt. You can't use it as an adze. "Used (sic) the adze for scaling bark, shaping and trimming timber and any job requiring a tool capable of rapid wood removal", except it bounce of the bark of a branch I tried to scale. I spent about 30 minutes at a grinding wheel, a couple of hones, and file before I was able to get a decent edge on it.On the plus side it's good as a hammer though the balance is awful, decent at pulling nails, and it breaks down for storage in a tool bag or pack. The wood handle is very comfortable. If they shipped it with a sharp edge it would have been a 5.

Simple but solid.
Not a real pretty tool, but sturdy and functional. It will need a sharpening.

Great product, but you need to finish it yourself.
My new adze arrived today and it looks pretty good. It comes in two parts. The head and the handle. The head is not sharpened yet. It will need to be ground down on a wheel before the actual sharpening and honing of the blade. The head is also cast iron, so it has the texture of a dutch oven. This also means that you may find some rough areas inside the hole where the handle goes. I did and will be promptly filing them down for smoother assembly and less damage to the handle. But overall it looks like a good solid piece of metal. I suspect it won't break anytime soon. The handle, on the other hand, appears to be well made and solid. I don't foresee having to do any more work to it before use. I may sand and refinish it or permanently attach it to the head and wrap it in paracord, but I don't know yet. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. I gave it four stars mostly because I'm lazy and disappointed that I need to track down a grinding wheel and finish the blade before I can get to the fun stuff. But it's really not a problem. I see axes on store shelves all the time that need to be finished before use. Most likely because they are safer to ship and store that way. This is a great purchase and will make a perfect addition to my gear. I'm happy I bought it.

Great multipurpose tool
This is a great multipurpose tool. When working around my yard garden or house I hate to have to carry several tools to do things. I am enjoying using it.
