quick processing of corn on the cob
We package over 100 cobs a year so we needed a quick unit that does not destroy the kernels. This works so well, the corn comes off in the orignial shape of the cob without a lot of damage to the kernel. This is our second one so we can work with 2 people. Only thing to keep in mind is the base turns opposit of what you are used to when opening up. Great product and well made!

easy corn kernel removal
I love this gadget. for so many years I had to use a very sharp knife to strip the kernels and make a huge mess. Then I tried a gadget that you push a very sharp edges down the cob and kernels went every where! Then I say this gadget. It contained the kernels almost mess free. I bought myself one. The other day my daughter saw it and made a comment about about wanting something just like it. I bought her one. It really is easy to use and easy to clean. There is just one thing you have to remember, or 3 things. The first is the cob size and the second is to put it in end first. Oh yeah the most important thing to remember --- remove the yellow plunger until you are ready to remove the core. works great on uncooked and cooked corn.

Arrived broken, can’t reach Amazon for return/replacement
Seems like this would work well, but the unit I received was defective. The base and bottom of the cylinder are threaded (with a sticker instructing you to twist to open) so that the unit can be cleaned easily. The threads on the unit I received won’t engage - it cannot be screwed together or apart. Even though it was Amazon Prime, the self-service portal is useless. It redirects to the manufacturer web site, which states if it was purchased through a re-seller like Amazon, the manufacturer has no access to records and says to get back to Amazon. After going around in circles for a long time with the automated systems, I tried to chat with a human to get an exchange. That was also fruitless. Waited for a chat for several minutes, then chatted either with a bot or someone who doesn’t understand English (maybe using automated translation) who ultimately redirected to the “dedicated team”. On hold for chat again for over and hour. Now at about 2 hours finally get a message that sounds like I may get a replacement. Used to be able to trust Prime purchases would be backed up with excellent customer service. Not so much anymore.

If you can love a tool, this will definitely be one of them.
Prior to getting this tool, I stripped kernels from the cob like most other people do - with a sharp knife. I positioned the cob on a cutting board, put the knife at the top of the cob and forced the knife down the length of the cob with a straight cut. Since this was a straight cut, it would get about 2 whole rows of kernels (if I positioned the knife right, and made a straight cut along the cob), and cut the rows on either side in half not getting the whole kernel. Sometimes it was "whoops, the ear slid on the cutting board" or "whoops, I almost caught my finger" or "whoops, I cut part of the cob with the kernels". There were also at least 4 to 5 cuts per cob, and generally, the juices of the cut kernels shot over the cutting board and onto the counter, not to mention the juices of the corn shooting everywhere. Any of you that have cut corn from the cob with a knife can relate to everything I have said here. Cutting the kernels off with a knife, collecting the kernels from the cutting board, and putting them into a storage bag can take at least 3-5 minutes per cob. With this tool, you put the cob into the cylinder, position the cob under the cutting tool, push down the tool, remove the cutting tool from the cylinder, insert the pusher into the cylinder to eject the empty cob, and pour the corn kernels into your storage bag. The whole process takes less than 30 seconds with no mess.Prior to buying this tool, I read reviews that stated it was good only for medium to large cobs, but I have processed over 8 dozen cobs and haven't come across one that it couldn't handle. Maybe by small, people mean short, but a cob would have to be pretty short for it not to fit. If they mean narrow, the cob would have to be pretty narrow for it not to work. I believe that any normal sized cob will work with this stripper. At any rate, this corn stripper has made my life so much easier, and I no longer dread the job of stripping the kernels from fresh corn. Fresh or blanched and frozen, I will never buy store frozen corn again. There is really no comparison to the corn kernels you make from fresh corn.UPDATE 9/l7/13I took off 1 star because the plastic tube that holds the corn breaks easily. The second time I used it, it slipped, and part of the top cracked off. A little further into the job, another piece cracked off from the top of the tube. A little further into the job, it wasn't cutting very well, and I noticed the cutting teeth on one side were bent inward. So I straightened it with pliers, and continued. I managed to get through 4 dozen ears, a couple of which had to be cut with a knife because they were too wide at one end. In spite of the problems and the breakage (it's still useable), this tool still shortens the time needed to do the job with a lot less mess (unless my husband is using it). It would be better if it were made with stronger materials, though. For the price, I don't think it lasts very long.UPDATE 06/19//19:I bought the replacement corn stripper for the one I broke 6 years ago, and then bought another just in case I broke the replacement. So far, I haven't had to use the extra one. Every year, we buy 10-12 dozen ears of fresh organic sweet corn that I blanch, strip, and freeze for future meals. This corn stripper has lasted me all this time and still works perfectly. I wouldn't be without it and would never go back to stripping corn with a knife. Since each ear of corn takes a matter of 5 seconds or so to set it up and strip it, I can get a few dozen ears done in an hour and a half or so, and this is counting the blanching and packaging. Granted, depending on the diameter of the cob, it may take more pressure to cut of the kernels, but only wide cobs take more pressure. Most of the cobs strip very quickly. Personally, I would never want to cut kernels from cobs of corn with a knife again. Using this tool is so very much faster and easier.I hope this review was helpful for you. I will update the review if my opinion changes.

Corn cob beast!
This thing is amazing. Once you get the hang of it, this thing shreds corn off the cob in seconds. I did 4 dozen ears of sweet corn after grilling to freeze for the winter. Cut time by 3/4!

If you like fresh corn, but not the cob, this is the product for you!
This product lives up to and beyond its advertisements. Anyone who loves corn on the cob but not so much the cob, will love the ease of use of this product and the easy clean up after us.

Poorly made
Bought the product after seeing a review on America's Test Kitchen, as it was rated quite high. Even though it is very expensive product designed for one purpose only, I ordered it as gift for my son-in-law who loves fresh locally grown corn. It worked well initially, however, the plastic container got chipped/broke after using it for about 5 cobs of corn - 4 fresh and 1 boiled cobs of corn.Tried returning on Amazon, and Amazon keeps sending it me the generic RSVP website. What a nightmare!
