Encyclopedia of Gods: Over 2,500 Deities of the World Hardcover – January 1, 1993

I believe there are more than 2500 Gods, many who claim to be the one true God. Humans have made God to answer questions they feel inadequate at explaining. It is a thread of our Neurodrive that helps us survive by flocking. We are doing a terrible job of schooling. So this was a great book for my research and a fun read unless you might get upset if you come across your personal God. Religion is about my God, Mythology is about everybody elses. I am partial to LUG, you might say I'm a Lug nut.The best book in this direction is the book by Barbara Walker "Man Made God" which puts it all into context as to how Gods meet mans needs and how they fail us too.Rather than argue "Is there a god?" I say it doesn't matter to me. Faith is No Reason. I will believe in miracles when God heals my friend who had his leg blown off in Nam. When I see him wiggle his toes on 'both' feet, I will be a believer. The Governor of Texas had a prayer meeting asking God to send rain that would end the terrible drought Texas endures. A few days later the state was deluged with wild fires that destroyed thousands of homes, now if it rains the flooding will wash away the burnt top soil.

This book is yet another proof that Satan is the god of ALL religions in the earth.The KJV Bible states that Yahweh/the Devil has deceived the whole world. As an African from the Congo, my whole family were surprised to know that the god in our native tongue of Lingala and Ngbandi was yet another variation of Yahweh and Baal.Our ancestors forgot their god, The Most High Ahayah, and adopted the gods of the gentiles as they migrated from Israel, to Libya, to west, central, Southern Africa until the transatlantic slave trade of the Jewish business men began to sail their ships in west African shores.The KJV 1611 Bible is freeing our people from deception.If you are in any of these religions, your god is Lucifer/Satan and his angels:*Modern Christianity*Islam*New Age*Atheism*Politics*Hinduism*Buddhism*Non denominational religions*etc...Here are the names of Satan in different languages: Jesus, Yahweh, Elyon, El, Yah, Yahu, Jehovah, Zeus, Shiva, Baal, Molech, Samael, El Shaddai, Adonai, Vishnu, Jupiter, Iovi, Iovim, etc.............Exodus 3:14, 15 is the name of the Power (God) of the true Israelites: AHAYAH! Excellent book--having all the gods known to man.It discusses the gods of just about all the ancient cultures in the mid-east , India , Africa and American Indians.The names of the gods are written alphabetically so you can look up one in particular if you'd like.I easily found the ones I wanted to study.It does NOT discuss the ONE GOD /Christian Judeo God.I have the hardcover --but it comes in soft cover as well .

Encyclopedia of the Gods by Michael Jordan is an excellent resource. It has over 2500 deities from around the world. The deities discussed in this book are from African peoples, Albanian, Pre-Islamic Arabian, Aztec, Babylonian, Buddhist, Canaanite, Celtic, Egyptian, Native American, Etruscan, Germanic, Greek, Roman, Hindu, Persian, Polynesian, and Shinto.If you are interested in learning about deities from other cultures, I think you will enjoy this book!

I have purchased multiple copies of this book over the years because when I lend it out, it never returns.2,500 gods is a good start. It covers most of the major players in the Western Mythos. A full listing of the various and sundry gods in the Levant alone would fill five volumes. Add Mesopotamia and India and you could fill ten more! To include the gods of the European tribes and the Norse would ass a few more and the Africans and Pacific Islanders would almost fill ten volumes of their own.But these gods are the essential collection and should be familiar to any scholar. A MUST HAVE!

I love this book. I adore Theology and was so excited to find this book. Now that I have it in my possession I spend lots of time pouring over it and then doing separate research online for the deities that catch my interest and hold onto it. It came on time and well packaged with good smell by the ONLY complaint with it is it isn't very detailed. many are missing which is understandable, but most of what is there doesn't have a lot of detail but random ones will have half a page? I just wish it had more information but its a good start

This book is an excellent recourse for those who are interested in studying the Gods of every civilization from the beginning of documented history. Inside the front cover is a time line that presents the span of civilization from Sumerian to present. The descriptions of the Gods themselves are very concise yet informative. I highly recommend this book. Buy and enjoy!

Not much information. More like a list of the gods and goddesses with a tiny blurb about them. Disppointed.
