Disappointed
1. This book is not for the Indian market. Animals like the aardvark and beaver do not make it to our zoos and kids’ vocabularies2. The author has made up animals when she couldn’t find one! There is no such thing as an “Uglybird” or a “Xylo”. How am I supposed to explain to my son that these are not real animals?

Entertaining and educational, thumbs up!
Our son has loved this book ever since we got it for him. He was 14 months when we bought it and now at 17 months it has demonstrated its ability to entertain as well as to educate, he really is learning some of the letters of the alphabet which is a big step for someone so young. He also looks forward to the iguanas itching (a good excuse for a tickle) and the zebra zig-zagging at the end (another tickle!). He enjoys following my finger as I spell each letter. My only wish is that Sandra Boynton had written the letters in lowercase as well as uppercase. Maybe she would consider coming out with a companion book. He is learning so much about capital letters I worry that I don't have an equally entertaining way of teaching him lowercase! We also have another book by the same author, Going to Bed Book (Boynton Board Books (Simon & Schuster)) which our son finds equally entertaining. We shall be looking out for more from this author. Excellent
It is fun and clear. Wonderful and colorful illustrations. Your kids will just love it as mine did. It is recommended.

Boynton Books are Fun
Board books for the youngest kids can be boring. Sandra Boynton's crazy animals are fun for the adults too.

Different book?
I wish I hadn't ordered this without having Amazon's usual excellent 'look inside' sneak preview. I thought I would take a chance based on the good reviews and the fact that it's cheap and cheerful. What a waste of money.I'm totally unimpressed with the illustrations as is my 20 month old daughter who has just thrown it to the floor. I was expecting some colourful illustrations and at the very least one page per letter, but we don't even get that with this book. It's mostly two bland illustrations per page with some strange choices for animals. I actually don't know what a 'Vicuna' is but it is 'violinning' in this book. Also 'Nightingales Nesting' ?!My daughter has perhaps been spoiled by the exceptionally good Roger Priddy books, but in all honesty this is a very poor substitute. Call me a cynic if you like but this just looks like it was dashed off quickly in an afternoon!
