Easy installation, no gear set-up
Easy installation , no gear set-up. The unit works well, as advertised, quiet, no clicks. I would recommend this unit to all who want better traction.

2 years, 20-25k miles and broken springs... 100k mile warranty, what?
I bought this locker about halfway through last year to take care of my trucks awesome one wheel peel when trying to take off in the rain. I installed it in an '06 Ford Ranger Sport 4x4. My truck has a 4.0v6 and a tow package so it has 4.10 gears on stock tires (about 31") but came with an open diff from the factory for some strange reason. That diff and our cities roads that get super slick, like polished concrete slick, when it gets wet, and the city has grass that gets watered almost every morning around 4am when I'm heading to work so the one wheel peel action was no longer an option.I didn't want to go with a full center section because I didn't feel comfortable removing the whole diff and have to set it all back up. I read that lockers aren't recommended for vehicles with a manual but I had enough of the tire spin.As a kit, the install instructions were clear and easy to follow. I did make the mistake of using the grease more like an assembly lube and used a pretty good amount. Don't do that... The purpose of the grease is solely for holding the parts together so it doesn't fall apart as you are assembling it. Using a lot cause very, very harsh disengagements for about the first dozen times as it worked the grease out, so harsh it made me cringe.I have probably about 10-12k miles and almost a year on it now and it's had more harsh disengages but not too often, so I chalked it up to having a piece of off road equipment in a daily driven pavement pounder, but now it has started to click on take off and decel since I do downshift as I slow down. At first the click was only on hard acceleration or decel but now it is doing it with moderate as well, so now I'm a little fearful for the rear end of my truck. I only noticed it a week ago and changed the fluid (which was still pretty clear and not cheap since I used Mobil 1 synthetic, 3 qts) and it is still there. I put the axle on stands and had my neighbor listen as I got the wheels turning and rode the brakes to give it a load to force it to click so I know for a fact it is coming from the diff. I also emailed powertrax 2 days ago and haven't even gotten as much as an auto generated "we got your message and will get back".As my experience sits, I CANNOT recommend this unit to anyone unless you have money to burn. Hopefully powertrax rectifies this soon. I noted I was worried about my diff eating itself alive in hopes of a speedy reply since it's my daily driver, but no avail. If I don't get a response from them soon I will start removing stars. If they fix it soon I will add them because when it works as intended, I love my locker despite tire scrub around corners because traction is nice.Edit: found the issue was elsewhere. I'm not adding any stars and I'm not removing any either. I love the locker, I really do, but when I thought I absolutely needed powertrax, they were no where to be found. It has a 2 year/100k mile warranty so I'm not sure why I never got a response. I will tell anyone who asks me about off road stuff about their customer support as well. Had I known they were like this I would have gone with a different locker.Removing a star because I STILL have yet to hear from powertrax. I love my locker, but their customer service seems non existant...Edit 12/12/19STILL no word from from powertrax and now the damn thing isn't engaging after taking corners, which, wouldn't you know it is one of the main functions of a locker. I've emailed powertrax YET AGAIN since obviously this is a defect of my locker, not a u joint that cause the clicking I described before. I told them how after I spent over $400 on this part that it's absolutely ridiculous that i havent gotten a response from the last email, and if I dont get one this time my review will hit 1 star. I see it's already down to 2 stars, so I guess it's going down to 1 earlier than expected because i really dont expect to hear back from them this time. If i dont get a response back in a week, I'm taking this to social media... Support your frigging product people spend hard earned money on, is that too much to ask?! I dont think so when there's a swarm of competitors out there...Edit 12/23/2019Actually heard from and bidirectional communication with powertrax this time (which they admitted to getting my last email and never responded, so thanks for helping me in my time of need, powertrax). They said the behavior of my locker is strange but did not suggest anything until I remove the unit and disassemble it and inspect it. I could not remove the unit since I couldn't get the axle in far enough in my limited time working on it (didn't take the wheel and drum off that should have allowed me to remove the c clip to remove the locker). I did find out that the springs are a really common issue on a ranger/exploder forum, and since I found 2 broken springs in the housing, I went ahead and ordered 2 Powertrax 8001-001-KAV spring kits so I have one on the shelf next time this happens. No response from powertrax this go round, but I let them know what I found in the diff and online and that I've ordered 2 spring kits despite how disappointed I am in their product after 20-25k miles despite a 100k mile/2 year (which I'm out on) warranty... leaving my review at 1 star due to my frustration...Edit 5/3/20Got the new spring kit in shortly after receiving them and my locker worked as expected again. Few months later and it's starting to not engage all the time again, but not as bad as before. I was planning on lifting my truck and putting an Explorer axle under it (stronger, 31 spline axle shafts and disc brakes) but I'm certainly not going to use a powertrax product of any kind. Never did hear back from them in my last email. As far as I'm concerned, their products and customer service are pure garbage. Hopefully my experience travels far and wide so others don't waste their hard earned money and time on their products.

this works very well.
it takes a little getting used to but works well.apparently this thing somehow lets one wheel delay at least half a round on turns so the tire dosen't get dragged.before on rainy days i would lose traction trying to pull away from stoplights.now after about two seconds both wheels pull.
