I admire Joe Nye's sense of style and risque ventures with color. He proffers wonderful, useful, practical advice that can be applied to a range of budgets. Joe and I share a love of using carnations and alstroemeria in arrangements for home entertaining. I was particularly taken with his apparent affection for shades of pink, yellow, and blue! Even if one cannot afford to employ a calligrapher, one can certainly apply the principals Mr. Nye suggests to create a similar effect. (I love it that he suggested having a calligrapher to create a "master copy" that can then be duplicated! I'm a firm believer in that when I'm pinching pennies!) Overall, an excellent read, and the photos are magnificent!

This is a Beautiful Book!!! I actually worked for Joe Nye when this book was being developed. This is a fantastic gift for so many occasions and definitely a great addition to your coffee book collection! Joe was one of the Best Interior Designers ever!! I will always have several of these books on hand because they truly are an Inspirational!!

Really--this book is a lot of fun to page through and offers up some terrific ideas. The author has a great sense of style and a fun way of combining different pieces for a wide range of interesting and elegant looks. Some good basic party tips as well.

Joe Nye's book on party planning is pretty and inspiring. This is a light book on entertaining, but it contains plenty of practical and helpful advice. This book just might give you some ideas to use for your next dinner party.

A great book to look through and extremely well-organized in dividing up sections of "to do" items for parties.It's a little over-the-top in design, but more than worth it because you can get lots of super ideas about tablscapes that you might not have thought about doing.Extremely good close-up photos that help show all the detail work.

Purchased the book based on the friendship the author has with our Nebraska family. Joe speaks of an era in which our mother's lived and it brings back such wonderful memories of bygone days and serves as a reminder that those days NOT be BYGONE. Taking time and with some emphasis on elegant, entertaining can be FUN, FUN FUN!!!!! Thanks for the memories, Joe

Gorgeous photos, excellent tips, great to read even if there are very few "orchids on one's budget", written by by someone with experience, taste and loads of flair. Makes one want to invent a do, make up a menu, turn out the cutlery, the linen and the china, and send out the invitations! A delightful read for all those interested in "les arts de la table", in hospitality as it used to be, and in the sheer fun of concoting sparkling tablesettings, even if (or perhaps especially if) it's only a very rushed pot-luck dinner for six.Recommended. Buy and enjoy!
