Highly Recommend!
I ordered this because someone highly reccomended it for safety to test the temperature of the wheels on our truck and trailer as we traveled with our horses. Ironically, a week after getting it, we got to put it to the test. The brake caliper locked up on the front wheel of our truck and we did not know it. When we stopped, we measured the temps just to see and that wheel was almost 500 degrees! (The others wheels were 125 degrees.) Worth the money just to have a heads up on potential problems and to avoid a possible accident. This saved us.

IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON STAINLESS STEEL & ALUMINUM SURFACES.
I bought this digital infrared thermometer to measure the surface temps of the center wheel bearing cap and wheel temp of my RV when traveling. In reading the operation manual upon receipt of the thermometer, it specifically states that inaccurate readings will result from measuring shiny or polished surfaces. The thermometer is not recommended for use on polished stainless steel or aluminum surfaces. The center hub cap on my RV is bright polished stainless steel and the wheels are polished aluminum. Turns out the thermometer was of no use to me.

Functional and Convenient--A great technology
I work as a kitchen manager at a middle school and find this ThermoTech product to be very useful because I'm required to record the temperature of everything I serve several times a day. The reason the item did not receive 5 stars is because although it works for what it is intended for, it's not the best on the market as far as accuracy and ease of use and tends to have a short battery life. Overall, a good buy.

Sent It Back
I don't often write reviews unless I'm really impressed with an item but with this thermometer I'm the other way around. I'm not impressed at all. The thermometer worked great out of the box. I tested it with a burner on the stove and the inside of the freezer. I found my oven is cool, at least when set at 170 degrees. However, when I attempted to use the thermometer the next morning all I could get was an error message. I tried all the things I could think of to reset it but no luck. I gave up and sent it back. First item ever that has failed when ordered from Amazon.

Nice prod but needs better instruction manual
The unit I received has extra glue squeezed out on the edge of label and a black dot on top right of the screen (bad mfg quality control). These do not cause unit non-functional but I don't like it for something I bought new. The unit does very good job in measure temperature, I was able to locate a leak on my door within a few minutes. I like the design and it is very comfortable to hold on. The screen back lighting is very pleasant and very cool. The instruction manual desperately needs an update, especially how to install the battery. The manual has a section for install batt, but it simply states that batt needs to be replaced when a low bat symbol appears ... duh, no mention of where or how. I am very handy and it took me almost half-hour to figure out since I was afraid to break something which I almost did when trying to pull the cover the wrong way.

best calibration, ease of use
I looked at a lot of different models, best calibration, ease of use. I keep it in the truck that we tow a very heavy trailer with and regularly check brakes and tire temps before heading down long grades.

My 2nd unit and it works great
This was a replacement for a model that broke after 5 years. The reason it broke was because I accidently placed the 9 volt battery on wrong and it cause the board to fry. My fault. My last unit lasted 5 years, the beam did stop working after about 4 years, but it worked. I use it for cooking, searching for leaks, and goofing around. It works great. I have faith in ThermoTech and it is a great product.

Batteries died quickly, rubber went tacky
The thermometer mostly sat in a drawer dead, because even without being used, the batteries in it died over time. Also over time, the black rubber parts degraded and grew tacky. After about ten years in the drawer, I gave up on it and threw it out.
