Q: 1 Jar for $17.50? Locally the cost is $8.99. Are we sure we only get one jar?

I have always paid $8.99 for each jar that I purchased. However, I stopped buying them because they were not dry roasted, they were very oily the last 2-3 times that I ordered them. They tasted terrible and stale.

Q: Are mauna loa macadamia nuts sourced totally from hawaii? the package now says “distributed by mauna loa”. does this means they are foreign sourced?

The Mauna Loa macadamia nuts website never specifically attests that their macadamia nuts are 100% grown in Hawaii. Hawaiian Host Company owns the Mauna Loa brand, and a recent article in CivilBeat (a Hawaii news company) reported that Hawaiian Host “has long imported nuts from elsewhere to supplement its Hawaiian nuts” and “shipping records indicate South Africa and Kenya have become big suppliers.” Until Mauna Loa (as well as other macadamia nut companies in Hawaii) actually prints on all of its packaging that the mac nuts they sell are“100% grown in Hawaii,” I would STOP BUYING any macadamia nuts sold from all companies in Hawaii. This issue is similar to the Kona coffee industry’s policy of having coffee purveyors clearly state whether the Kona coffee they sell is 100% Kona coffee or ersatz/faux Kona coffee, that is, Kona coffee bags containing just 10% or less of actual Kona coffee. The rest of the bag is filled with other questionable beans. Buyer beware!
