Good Deal
Really nice comic that really gets into the back story of Ghost, so if you’re a fan, this is the book for you. On top of that, this book is a compilation of all six issues in one, making it easier for you to read in one sitting.

Good, but not sure I'd recommend a purchase to anyone who isn't already interested in learning more about Ghost
As other reviewers have noted, this dark comic book adaptation about Ghost's past is an intricate, sometimes confusing, read. I first read the "Modern Warfare 2: Ghost" comic book series online several years ago and enjoyed it enough to feel compelled to read it again years later, hence actually buying the bound series recently. It is incredibly dark, sometimes downright bizarre, but I kind of like it for those very reasons. The "skull" motif is a little overdone to the point of absurdity in the storyline, but the darkness and tragedy surrounding Ghost's past is something I suspected (of perhaps over analyzed) whilst playing MW2. If anything, you'll end the story with an understanding as to why the skull-insignia is so symbolic to his identity in the game. The artwork is some of the best I've seen in a comic book, with two artistic styles present. A realistic, pencil-sketched style conveys the present and "main" storyline panels, whilst a retro, pop-inspired styling captures all of the flashbacks from Simon Riley's childhood with his abusive father and working class family. The two styles really mesh together and capture the mood of the separate but complementary narratives. Big kudos to the story artists as well as to the cover artist, which are consistently cool and interesting. To sum: I don't regret buying the collection, as I am a fan of the Modern Warfare story-arc and also compelled by Ghost's character, but I'm not sure I'd recommend a purchase to anyone who isn't already interested in learning more about Ghost. I don't think this particular story will captivate a reader not already wanting to learn more about his past, and even having read it, you will still leave with plenty of questions about his past and entry into Task Force 141. I'd love a sequel where we see him and MacTavish team up for the first time, but alas...

The origins of Ghost
So, this is apparently the comic series that tells the origins of the character Ghost from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare one and two. He's a character set in a mysterious light and this series explains it all. The story's kind of all over the place and gets a bit confusing at times but it's not too hard to follow. Basically, the story opens up with Ghost being held hostage with a bunch of children by terrorists. Ghost tells a story to the children to help pass the time while the terrorists wait for their hour-long deadline before they start killing the kids one by one. The story Ghost tells is one of Simon Riley, a British S.A.S. Commando that was transferred to an American unit to take down a Mexican warlord. The story has a decent pace with Riley having to fight through the grunts and even his former allies and the final issue being the showdown between him and the warlord (and all his men.) Riley's dad was a colorful character (an old punk rocker with a potty mouth) and Riley's obsession with the dead and the enemies calling him "Mr. Death" leads you to believe that Riley and Ghost are one in the same (and this connection starts being made pretty early on in the TPB.) The whole bit with Ghost being a hostage and telling a story to the children sounds ridiculous but once he explains why he's telling the story, (and at the end, you fully understand the purpose of the story itself) it all makes sense and ends up being pretty good writing. The dialogue is gritty and militaristic and the story, although a bit hard to keep up with, is nice and tells of the supposed origins of a really cool character in the Modern Warfare video game series. The art is fantastic and there's quite a bit of blood and gore and headshots all throughout. The cover of each issue is present without any text which is a nice bonus and there's also a write-up about the cover art in the back of the TPB as well. The whole set is nice to have and, although definitely not the greatest comic series in the world, it is nice to have if you have played Modern Warfare one and two and want more story out of it.

Violent, appalling, horrifying, wonderful
Wow. Graphic torture, murder, rape (male on female and male on male), child abuse, horrific language--it's all here in full color. It's a nightmare of abuse and treachery, a confusing story full of flashbacks. It's a moral cesspool. And really, it works. It's a nightmare start to finish, with no let up and no easy outs. There's no silly flagwaving or pat rescues, no feel good messages at the end. The good guys are just as bad as the bad guys; they just have different goals and objectives. Everybody involved is involved because they love violence and killing. It's a very adult tale, and my only complaint is that some of panels are rather poorly done. The cover illustration is fantastic, and some of the interior panels are good, but it looks like a lot of the book was farmed out to less talented artists. It's disappointing because it's a great story and deserves better artwork.

Not bad...
I picked this up being a fan of both comics and Modern Warfare 2. I was very intrigued by Ghost's character in the game. The price was very reasonable and I thought I'd give it a chance and it would be nice having all 6 issues in one binding.I am giving the book 3 stars because though I was entertained, the story was nothing groundbreaking. It also kind of clashed with how the character acted and held himself in the game. It didn't seem true at all. Even going back and playing the game and trying to make the character fit the portrayal of the comic wasn't possible. The cover art was really awesome, and you get half a dozen beautiful covers within the book. The panels inside aren't terrible, but they're nothing eye popping either. If you just want a fun, quick, read go ahead and pick it up for the price. It is entertaining enough, and if it had nothing to with the MW2 I don't think there would be anything wrong with the story, however it did nothing to excite me as a fan of comics or video games.

Nice art but it takes more than that
To be fair the story is not that bad, told as a story by a hostage, the character 'ghost' himself known from Modern Warfare 2. The artwork is very good and the action is frequent, there is even a nice attempt at explaining the backstory in poetic terms with bones a recurring theme. What I feel lets it down too much is the sudden lack of mystery - you may find out more about the character than you wanted to know. I assumed that with a masked character known only as ghost you might like a little bit of mystique preserved, but no, you'll find out which regiment he's from, his real name and his family life in the space of this volume. Still its fairly entertaining and if you like graphic novels and Call of Duty, you'll like this too.

Fantastic read, and was a great way to learn ...
Fantastic read, and was a great way to learn the origins of MW 2's Ghost. Also fantastic to use as a reference to draw, because I like drawing different things
