Stummfilm-Liebhaber werden wissen, was sie bei dieser Edition erwartet. Mich haben vor allem die Lang-, aber auch die Kurzfilme köstlich amüsiert. Der sympathische Harold Lloyd beweist einmal mehr, dass er in einem Atemzug mit Charlie Chaplin und Buster Keaton genannt werden darf. Sie sind sozusagen die "Big Three" in Sachen US-amerikanischer "silent comedy". Natürlich verfolgen sie jeweils eigene Ansätze. Eine Ausführung dazu würde an dieser Stelle zu weit führen. Nur so viel: Die temporeiche Komik der Stummfilm-Ära verdient meines Erachtens mehr Aufmerksamkeit. Was damals mit einfachen technischen Mitteln geleistet wurde, verdient große Anerkennung. Es darf gelacht werden!

Review for:Coffret Harold Lloyd [9 x DVD Box Set - Carlotta - French - Pink Cover]This is the one to get, especially as the Harold Lloyd: The Definitive Collection seems to be going out of print (& fluctuates pretty wildly in price).In case you're worried, this set is definitely not just another chop-shop-cheapo like the dreadful Elstree Hill Entertainment et al.The films in this 9 DVD Box have been approved by the Lloyd estate, with some obvious care spent on restoration and selection of music (Davis, Robert Israel etc.). A couple of musical selections for the shorts drop below this standard, but they're few in number and don't really detract from the enjoyment.Each disc contains a number of longer films (including his most famous films - Safety Last, Freshman etc.) and well-selected accompanying shorts. The set also includes the documentary Harold Lloyd's World Of Comedy and other archival material, though I haven't got that far into it yet.As far as I can tell, the collection doesn't include anything before 1919, so those looking for the pre-glasses era of Lloyd's work will need to look elsewhere. I have to say, this has never held any great interest for me but others might want to trace the development of Lloyd's early career.French subtitles are easily turned off using your player - not an option on each disc's menu screen.Do you get much more from Harold Lloyd: The Definitive Collection than the work included here? I don't know as I haven't seen that set. In fact, judging from the reviews of that set, this might just be an exact replica of that, but for the French market.Either way, this comprehensive collection is pretty much all I need to explore the wonderful world of Lloyd.

Chefs-d'œuvre du burlesque d'un acteur du muet, Harold Lloyd, injustement méconnu par rapport à Chaplin et Buster Keaton. Tout est génial, hilarant et poétique, sensible, délicat et spectaculaire. On ne se lasse ni des prouesses d'acteur ni des prouesses techniques de mise en scène, 25 ans seulement après la naissance du cinéma. C'est formidable !

Brilliant dvd's in superb packaging, as always with French dvd sets, and if you use a Blu Ray player to play them instead of a DVD player, you should be able to turn off the French subtitles in the Blu Ray player 'options' menu.
