Q: the very first day it arrived I discovered one of the snaps inside was broken. is this a common occurrence for this product?

It can happen sometimes. When I bought my Glow 2'x3' softbox, one of the snaps kept coming undone from the start. After a while I got pretty annoyed and used a safety pin to hold it in place. I don't know why Glow insists on using these damn snaps and are not using velcro yet, which is MUCH more reliable.

Q: 28" or 38" parabolic softbox? That is the question. Whatever 'tis preferable for outdoor portraiture and why? Thanks!

28 is just fine. 38 is huge and the softbox is 2 feet long in length. I use mine for more portraits outdoor etc
