***VOLHART 3*** Description Also known as "Lambs Lettuce" corn salad is an excellent salad green. It grows best during cooler weather and is ideal for fall-winter crops. It has a somewhat nutty flavor and mixes well with spinach, lettuce and other greens in salads. Approximately 60 days to maturity. Corn Salad or Lamb's Lettuce as it is sometimes known is a very much underrated vegetable, providing a valuable source of fresh salad leaves outside through the Winter months when little else similar will grow. An excellent Winter gap filler - both in the vegetable garden and at the dining table. Highly recommended. How To Sow & Grow Corn Salad Sow August to September thinly in ½" deep drills 6" apart. Protect the emerging seedling from both birds and slugs. Thin the plants to 4" - 6" apart (and of course eat the thinnings!). Pick as required, avoiding striping a plant bare. Top Tips Sometimes the leaves may become bitter to taste; if this is the case blanch the plants by covering with a box or pot or similar a few days before harvesting. Tempting as it may be, do not try and grow as a Summer salad crop as the warmer temperatures invariably cause this to run to seed very quickly. The seeds are factory packed in paper envelopes. Germinating power is tested, best before 12.2017.
