Ok. You can't make this up. My daughter was in a lovers' spat with her 18 year old boyfriend and accidentally sprayed him in the face while intentionally threatening to spray him in the face with the pepper spray I just bought her to take to college. Long story short, said boyfriend not only vomited but sobbed in crippling pain. About 45 minutes later and after a shower, he returned to functionality. Needless to say, ill rest a little easier knowing she has this protection.

My husband is a law enforcement instructor in the legal and defensive use of pepper spray. He recommends the Sabre brand for its effectiveness and reliability, so it’s what I’ve carried for years. The first thing you want to do when you receive your spray is to test it out. Occasionally there’s a defective can, and you don’t want to discover that when you need it. Also and most importantly, a little practice will ensure that you’re prepared in an emergency. Get comfortable with flipping the safety back and forth, and then with applying a steady spray by depressing the trigger with your thumb. I recommend doing these practice runs when there isn’t any breeze or you’ll have blowback, which isn’t pleasant. Then perform a test about every six months to make sure everything works. The company says that the spray has a shelf-life of four years, but I generally replace mine about every two to two and a half years.I’d also recommend that each time you carry it with you that you take just a few minutes to mentally walk through your response if you suddenly had to use the spray. Picture flipping the safety and pointing it at the attacker’s eyes, making a sweeping motion from ear-to-ear. Always have an escape plan in mind.I chose this model because I like the Velcro hand strap. It’s easy to carry on my daily walks, and the size is perfect for being somewhat inconspicuous in my hand. It gives a good stream for about 8 to 10 feet.

Got this for my daughter and she carried it with her car key until the day she dropped it in a parking lot and it broke. The activation tab broke completely off (see picture), which is the part you'd expect to be the strongest as that's where a panicked finger will be pushing. Worse than it breaking, I contacted Sabre customer support via their online form, which promises a reply within 2 business days, and well over a week later have heard nothing, not even "sorry, go buy another".So... as this product seems prone to breaking easily, I'll be ordering from another manufacturer and hoping they have higher build quality.EDIT 08/25/2018:Two days after posting this review, Brittany from Sabre posted a comment. A day later I sent an email to the address provided. Then I waited 4 days before I tried emailing a different email address I saw Brittany had posted in a different comment on another review. Then I waited another 6 days... and there has still been no reply of any kind. I stand by my statement that "Sabre customer support is non-existent".FINAL UPDATE (09/10/2018):Sabre did finally contact me and sent a replacement. Unfortunately, long after I had already paid for a replacement, but they did send it. They claimed they had sent me numerous email, but for some reason only the last one reached me. There is no explanation for why that is, I have checked junk/spam folders on every account I have and only the one email ever reached me, so I don't believe the problem was on my end. However, they did eventually make it right, so I'm bumping my review from 1 star to 3 stars. I can't go any higher than that because the customer service experience was still 10 times harder than it should have been.

This has already proven to be worth the money. We've had a couple of car jackings at local gas stations and pan handling has gotten way out of control. Tonight I was pumping gas and had this in my hand when I was approached by a random, sketchy guy. He asked me for money and wouldn't leave looking inside my locked car. When I showed that I had mace in my hand and aimed it toward him, he said, "No problem, God bless" And immediately walked away. I am so glad i had this and highly recommend it!

Every female should have pepper spray with them at all times and know how to use it. I live in a big city and walk everywhere, and let me just put a PSA out there - the proper way to use pepper spray is to actually have it IN HAND when you are alone and it is dark or you feel vulnerable. Just don’t even bother buying it if your plan is to throw it in the bottom of your purse and then ask your attacker to wait a sec while you dig through your make up and old receipts to find your defensive weapon.

This product saved me from 2 pit bulls that charged me during a morning run through the country side. I will never run without it again. I wish it’s range was further but once it hit the snout they changed their mind real fast.

HATE!! As a victim of being attacked from behind in a parking lot, having to slide sprayer and use bionic thumbs to depress is ludicrous! You have seconds to react and better make sure you are a good aim. Women use their index fingers..The fact that the spray closes easily is also insane. I practically used all this up testing it.......Buy the other Sabre spray.. ...a little more cumbersome in the palm of hand but depresses easily and ready to go.
