One "glaring" error...
I really like the vest design. Lots of pockets that work conveniently for my big game hunting paraphernalia. Love the hand-warmer pocket. Large rear pocket holds my sitting pad (1" closed cell foam cut to fit the pocket) nicely. Side zip entry works fine for me. Wouldn't use it bird hunting because there is not enough room in the back pocket for any larger bird like a grouse or a pheasant. The problem is that it reflects UV light like a beacon, as you can see by the photo. This a no-no because it is my studied belief that deer and elk see in UV light extremely well. I tried to treat it with UV Killer and it still glows. I'm presuming that is because it's made of poly pro or some synthetic that doesn't soak up the UV Killer. Great design, except for the "glaring" error. They should make it out of material that doesn't have UV brighteners in it, like the camo shirt and pants in the photo. Had to give it 2 stars.

Weirdest piece of clothing, as well as my favorite.
This is the most bizarre, weirdly-designed article of clothing I own, as well as my favorite. Yes, I feel like a pumpkin while wearing it, and the side-zip requires you to duck like an English gentleman bowing to enter, but that; not the point. The point is the pockets.THIS THING HAS A MILLION POCKETS!Yes, a million. Here's the breakdown.FRONT* 2 chest pockets (zippered) - I use the left for rangefinder. Right one should not contain anything bulky (for obvious reasons) so I use for license, two zip ties and rifle magazine (whenever I get out of the truck, it comes out of vest and into gun, when I get back into truck, it comes out of rifle and into vest. If I shoulder the rifle and feel a lump, I'll instantly know what I've forgotten)* Left chest cartridge loops (under velcro flap) and small pocket (velcro flap) - I use the tiny pocket for a wind checker (barely fits) and the cartridge loops I...do not use. Who keeps loose rounds on their chest instead of in the mag? I must have missed something here.* Main "kangaroo" pouch (snaps) - I keep game calls, flashlight, snacks, light gloves in here. The pocket is VERY spacious (don't miss the expansion snaps underneath) and has more shell loops, this time big enough for 12g.* Hand-warmer pouch. This is where the genius of the garment becomes apparent. The ability to warm your hands together means this vest blows any competitor out of the water. I usually keep nothing but some chemical hand warmers in here, as stuff could easily fall out.RIGHT SIDE* Lower pocket (snap) - Kinda awkward with a backpack. Says made for GPS/Phone. I don't use* Higher "armpit" pocket (elastic) - Kinda awkward with a backpack. Made for a water-bottle maybe? I don't useBACKHere's where things get bizarre.*Top tiny...handle? (Zippered) - is this a "combat extraction handle" to allow your hunting buddies to drag you out of the field? A specialized vent to allow cold air to access the back of your neck? The description says "Slot for safety strap". What safety strap needs such a slot? Have I been hunting all this time without a safety strap?? I won't be able to sleep at night until enlightened.* "Grommeted license holder" - Again, the description's words, not mine. Who attaches their hunting license to grommets on the back of their vest? Is this a pre-emptive strategy to ward off game wardens?* Huge back pocket with straps and flap. Maybe useful for anyone not carrying a daypack. I cut the straps off as uncomfortable in the truck.LEFT SIDESee above "RIGHT SIDE"INSIDE*NO* pockets! That's right, a million on the outside, but none on the inside for, say, your keys. Also, no pockets are waterproof, just FYIAll in all, an amazing piece of clothing technology. I wish it had molle strips and inside pockets but otherwise perfect. Makes me happy every time I put it on or even just lay eyes on it.

Best Hunting Vest I have Ever Bought
My vest was delivered today and the only way to describe it is WOW !I already owned the other front zipper style orange/camo Gamehide vest. I believe I have had that one for close to 20 years. And that was always my favorite hands down. Thats until I went on Amazon to buy the same vest just to have 2 of them. So when I search for Gamehide vests I saw both the old style and this one for 20 bucks more. So after some reluctant thinking I decided to spend the few bucks more to try this one . I just could not get over the pocket layout and needed to try it. Best thing I ever did. Dont get me wrong. The old style Gamehide vest I already own was the best vest I have ever worn. Terrific quality . No rips and no fading at all after hunting with it in Maine , NH , and VT every year for 20 years. But I just could not get over all the pockets on this new style Gamehide vest ! Oh and the kangaroo hand warmer sleeve in the front ? PRICELESS !I will deal with the side zipper anytime just to have that sleeve that otherwise would not exist in the front zipper style !Now I can claim that this new vest is the best hunting vest I have ever bought. Quality Gamehide vests is the only way to go !

A substantial piece of hunting gear.
I think this is an excellent piece of gear, so long as you understand what it is you're getting. What this product is NOT, is an extremely lightweight vest meant to offer little more than the mandated amount of blaze orange coverage, which can be rolled up into a compact little package and stuffed into a cargo pocket when not in use. What this product IS, is a substantial, very well thought out and very well constructed vest that's intended to become an integrated component to your overall hunting outerwear system. There are many pockets, both front and back, built in compression straps above a large rear pouch, covered elastic cartridge holders, a very functional, lined hand warmer tunnel and rubberized straps sewn into the shoulders which help to grab your rifle sling. There's a quarter zip zipper in the front and a second full length zipper that completely undoes the vest at the side if increased ventilation is a concern. Machine washability rounds out the impressive feature set.The sizing is a little bit on the generous side, but that's ideal for accommodating multiple layers underneath.ETA: After some use in the field in inclement weather, I would amend my review to point out that the vest material tends to get saturated and rather heavy when subjected to an extended downpour. Probably not an issue in the snow, but for rainy conditions this should be taken into consideration.
