First delivery, bad DVD - Second one, we're impressed!
Rating of 4 Stars because of a large inconvenience.Received first DVD, was preparing for some work and needed/wanted to have this available for use. Spent about 4 hours fighting with the first DVD delivered, on 5 different Computers and 3 different DVD players - darn thing would not work correctly, seizing in different areas most of the time (30min, 22min, 48min, etc.) into the showtimes. As a result, the Amazon return was pretty straight forward and aside time and aggravation lost to delivery #1 DVD....the final return was okay, with the second one sent next day just fine. The second DVD, well it worked perfect. Problem free. However, we were unfortunately set back a couple weeks because of the first DVD malfunctioning.Feedbacks here on Amazon are older (2010), but we thought since they were 4 and 5 star, this was worth a try.The content was found to be very good actually...stated in layman terms, easy to understand graphics, a good solid foundation for learning how a residential power system/service works, and the installed devices such as switches, outlets and lights. The visualizations also really helped (i.e. rocker switches, return signals, power, phases, pre-installations, prep work, safety, GFI, AFI, etc.)Safety is enforced throughout...shows the level of concern for the DVD developers, producers, hosts, etc. That was very much appreciated. We liked everything about this DVD (once we got one that worked). Its divided up into about 10-15 small chapters, it covers a vast amount in about 1.5hrs time. Detailed, easy to follow. Have already recommended to friends and let some family borrow it too.We highly recommend this to anyone just starting out....a newbie should find this DVD rather helpful!

well produced, learned a lot. one tip on testing your meter first.
Very well done. Great production values. I was ready for a guy with a home video camera talking about electrical. Instead it's a professionally produced video with narration and fantastic graphics. I learned a lot, and will watch again. I will use this to do simple work, especially straight replacement of parts. The one thing missing from the video (as I recall) is that you can't assume your meter or tester works. You should test your meter first, to make sure it's getting a reading, before you turn off the power and see the meter "not showing on." That way you can see the before and after, and see that indeed your meter / tester works. Otherwise if your meter is not working, you could do a measurement, have it read nothing, and think the current is off, when actually it's still on.

Good DVD Great for DIY'ers
I just bought a home and have little knowledge of electricity. I have been able to save myself quite a bit of money by using this dvd. It has already paid for itself multiple times over. My home was built in 1969 so i have some updating to do. I have successfully installed a ceiling fan in the master bedroom which previously didn't have a ceiling light. it was set up where the wall switch controlled a wall socket with a lamp. I recommend this to anyone who wants to save a few bucks by doing the work yourself. You don't need expensive tools.Tools needed:Drywall sawScrewdriversWire stripperselectrical tape/wire caps (connectors)andvoltage tester (dont need an expensive one, maybe 10-20 dollars)

I was left wanting more which is not a bad thing!
Very well made video which makes me want to learn more. I am aware that the publishers can only go so far due to liability issues which limits what be covered. The internet link listed for more info is a placeholder with no content whatsoever.

House Wiring
House wiring is like the rest of the DVD you neen to have in your colection istead of hiring a Electrician that would cost you a lot of money to put a outlet in your if you could read and follow simple directions then you are good to go.
