Has anyone used this to make kombucha?

I have been using this to brew Kombucha for many years. I let the water and sugar boil for about 5 minutes before adding my tea bags, just to make sure no unwanted bacteria or uglies in the sugar due to less processing.

Why isn't it burned before harvested? What is the difference of the sugar that have been to those that haven't been?

Organic, less refined (destroyed) is cheaper but the costs elsewhere is greater.
