This CD is a thank-you note from pianist George Cables to Dexter Gordon for sharing his stories, his talents, his music, and his Dexterity-ness with us. The music is a combination of Dexter's compositions and songs that he liked to play - songs that make Cables think of Dexter. In Dexter's band was the legendary drummer Eddie Gladden and virtuoso bassist Rufus Reid, truly a magical combination. Unfortunately, Eddie has since passed away - but happily, drummer Victor Lewis, another Dexter Gordon alumnus, was able to join bassist Reid and Cables for this project.

Buy this trio CD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again buy this great Cable-vision (sorry had to).All players Cables,Rufus Reed on Bass (as noted at AMG another Dexter alumnus) and the great vet Vic Lewis have it down here. The opener.Just listen to warhorse "Cheese Cake" blister into the delicate "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" and you know these guys are trying to capture the full emotional spectrum of LTD (Long Tall Dexter-also title of cut 10) into this CD.Maybe not as good as Cables best (like Night and Day on DIY) but this is a CD that will get re=played if your a fan of the basic trio format.Really beautiful.Chazzbo

Cables’ tribute to Dexter Gordon is exquisite!
George Cables is masterful in this tribute to Dexter Gordon which consists of tunes written by and/or associated with the master tenor sax man. If you’re a fan of swinging piano trio jazz you will love this CD.

Must-have CD
This is one of the world's greatest jazz pianists, influenced by Art Tatum, but with a style completely his own. For me, a must-have.

Cables' right hand is almost too good to believe
Cables' right hand is almost too good to believe: so fluid it sounds almost like a horn at times, which (as I recall) is one reason he was Art Pepper's all-time favorite pianist. Everything he does is fabulous, but this set--heard as an appreciation of Dexter Gordon--is really something special. Highly recommended.

Jazz ohne Philharmonic
George Cables wie er leibt und lebt - allerdings war er auch schon mal zupackender. Aber Sonntag Nachmittag voll in Ordnung.
