So far so good.
I bought this product for a different use than a pool. I am using it for dust control on dirt paths. Calcium Chloride works well for this as it doesn't significantly hurt soil or plants like other salts. The way it keeps dust down is by drawing moisture out of the air thus keeping the dirt damp. You dissolve it in water and spray it on the area you want to control. A couple good things about this product. It supposedly is a high concentration. (Calcium chloride is also useful for ice melting. Most Ice melters don't contain high concentrations and often contain other undesirable salts. Calcium Chloride ice melter is hard to find in the Summer.) The other good thing is that this is in flake form. It dissolves much faster than pellets or "rock salt" forms. (more surface area).I dissolved some in a garden sprayer at a relatively low concentration level and sprayed a small area with a lot of sun exposure, as an experiment. Two days later it is still very noticeable as it is damp and darker colored than the surround sandy soil. Soil particles seem to be sticking together well. That's what you want it to do. Using a fine spray nozzle, I had no plugging so it dissolved completely. Soon to try it at a wider scale, but the experiment looks promising. The only drawback is the price is kind of high. Calcium Chloride ice melter from Lowes goes for about $18 for 50lbs but I don't believe it is as pure and it is in "rock salt" form so it doesn't dissolve quite so quickly. But then none of the stores around me have any right now too. I believe that if the concentration is as the claim, I should be able to use less. Time will tell.I will agree too that an airtight bucket for storing it is a good idea as mentioned in another review, because it will indeed suck moisture out of the air. Calcium Chloride is the active ingredient in "Damp Rid" products, which work very well.

Excellent Product and Value, BUT...............
Great and effective product. Same high quality hardener you'd buy from your local rip-off pool store at a much lower price point here. Here is the BUT: The 50 pounds arrive as a bulk item in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box. My advice is, unless you plan to use all 50 pounds immediately, make a run to Home depot to buy a Homer bucket AND lid for $5 or so (make the run shortly after you order as the shipping is crazy fast). If you still have your old hardener's bucket keep it and use that. Make sure whatever container you use is airtight because of the nature of this product to clump and leach humidity from the air.
