Popeye
This is a good clean show for kids. My grandson loves it. He even goes around saying things he hears on it.

Popeye DVD
I noticed some of the reviews were mixed. Well, my kids LOVED this DVD. They loved it so much, I had to hide the DVD in order to take a break from Popeye and his friends. Yes, the clarity isn't perfect, however, it by all means is not dismal. I saw nothing wrong with the clairty and I can honestly say that my kids wouldn't care if there was a problem. They just want to see what silly thing Popeye is up to next. I would definitely recommend this DVD to anyone who loves Popeye or wants to introduce their kids to Popeye of yesteryear.

A great compilation, but could’ve used more early stuff
My grandfather was a big Popeye fan, so I was really glad to get a compilation of some classic cartoons. It had the classic Arabian Knights inspired shorts that I remembered and also a bunch of new ones. That said it’s one floor is that it relies more on the famous studios era Popeye than the Fleischer era. It’s good that it shows both , but I don’t know why they could’ve had more balanced approach. That said you will enjoy this, but how much will depend on which era you like better

Popeye The Sailor Man
At last a DVD collection that shows Popeye at his best. This brought back a lot of memories from when I was an avid watcher of his cartoons on TV. My only negative comment is I wish there was at least another Disc to this Popeye tribute. This is one for you to sit down and watch with your children, grandchildren or both. I only hope that a Volume Two is in the works like the Looney Tunes Volume 1, 2 and 3. The commentaries also offer another insight to the spinach eating hero.

Sam's review of Popeye
I gave the Popeye Movie to my grand nephew Sam who just turned 3 in August. His Grandmother assures me that it was the best gift ever. Of course they have to play Popeye all of the time (Sam being Popeye) and Grandma (Gennie) being Olive Oil or the bad person. So yes, I would say this was the gift for Sam. Thanks for making the shopping so easy.

Poor execution by VCI...these need a studio release
VCI should be commended for their attempt, if not their execution. The Fleischer cartoons look pretty good, especially considering their age. Certain points in the black and white cartoons don't have enough contrast, but the two-reel color cartoons look great. I had no problems viewing the cartoons on disc one (which, fortunately, contains the most important cartoons...the Fleischer Studio releases). However, the Famous Studio cartoons on disk two are riddled with transfer problems. There are numerous places where the screen goes blank, the picture pixilates, or the picture flickers. These are issues that are a result of transfer, not of source, so they are inexcusable.Another problem with the set...when selecting individual episodes, the DVD continues to the next episode instead of returning to the menu, at the completion of the selected episode. If you want a cheap way to see some old Fleischer Popeyes without any added sound effects (as on the Good Times release) this is probably the way to go.Just don't set your expectations too high.

Good for all ages.
My 5 yr old grandson and 3 yr old daughter had never seen a Popeye cartoon. I had trouble finding one at the stores so I went on line. They loved it!!! They sing all the tunes and knows all the characters. Thank you for giving us a wonderful time.
