A Big Important Art Book (Now with Women): Profiles of Unstoppable Female Artists--and Projects to Help You Become One

This is a rich book of work by female artists. I enjoyed looking through it, and I especially love the witty title. My only issue with the book is that all the work is pretty "safe". There is a lot of work being made by women that challenges the patriarchy by pushing boundaries and asking important questions, and, unless it is presented in an acceptably cutesy or kitschy way, you will not see it here. Many online places like The Jealous Curator where people go to discover new art and artists are constricted by their desire to not offend their viewers and lose "likes" and followers. This means that the art most likely to disrupt and inspire real change in our culture is silenced, and that is intensely problematic.

I've been following Danielle Krysa's blog The Jealous Curator for I don't even know how many years. She finds the best artists, often women and people of color who are otherwise pretty much left out of history. This not only features really amazing work by artists you probably have not heard of (unless you've also been following her!), but includes prompts for creating work!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND for any artists, art teachers, art lovers, and book readers :).

I am beyond grateful with this book. Such a fuel for creativity and a source of inspiration. Highly recommend this book!

I enjoyed reading this book and learning about contemporary female artists but I guess I didn't understand that it would be only very contemporary artists. I don't like most of the art, but I liked the women. Most of the art is just not my cup of tea.

I can't even find the words to express how inspiring this book was to me. I have always been an Art aficionado and a woman. This book of women artists filled my soul. I felt completely satisfied, smitten, and my Spirit flew! Highly, highly recommend.

I love this book. I've been recommending it to my art professor friends, hoping they will include it in their curriculum. The art is fantastic and I thoroughly enjoy reading their stories. I love the historical pieces about female artists. Danielle is fantastic!! I love her podcast, Art for Your Ear. She feels like my friend.

As a female artist i truly appreciates content that focuses on women throughout history, as well as contemporary art. This book is absolutely amazing, it’s filled with so many great women— some I’ve heard of, some I haven’t, all of them I can learn something from. I highly recommend this little book to add some insight into the wonderful world of female artists.

This is a great gift for young women who are growing into their own art! I gave it as a birthday gift and donated a copy to a local arts nonprofit. I especially loved the project challenges the book gives to help the reader stretch herself artistically. The art is eclectic and moving, and I loved reading the articles about each artist.

Bought it for my mother's birthday, she is a gallery owner and she really likes the book. The illustrations are lovely. There is a definite focus on female artists, which is wonderful.

This delightful book is long overdue: kudos to the author for putting together this joyful salute to women artists through the ages, with a nod to modern work. It is a clever and important collection and very much in keeping with The Jealous Curator's trademark taste for bright pops of colour, whimsical humour, and a dash of resistance. Well done indeed.

Lovely read, enjoy the feminine focus. Guest love picking it up and viewing as well. Nice coffee table book.

Everyone needs to read this book.
