Finally, Success at keeping the flying rats (pigeons) off my terrace. - Some modifications needed
We live in a NYC building where every apartment has a large terrace. Short of installing screening, for a significant cost, the terraces are unusable due to the pigeon population and the mess they make. I have tried everything from fake owls to shiny ribbons to deter these grey crapping machines and nothing works beyond a few days. In fact, the brazen birds will sit and ____ right on the owl once they realize it's fake.I have resorted to a combination of low- and high-tech equipment to keep these flying nuisances away. I installed spike strips all along the perimeter of the terrace, the railing and the divider between apartments. I purchased two ultrasonic, motion sensing bird repellers, and this solar bird repeller. Finally, pigeon and poop free.As some people have mentioned, the solar power option was totally useless for my application due to my terrace facing northeast. At most, it would receive about two usable hours of sunlight to charge the internal battery. I was simply rotating fully charged NiMH batteries every morning that would keep the unit running for 24 hours. This got old, real fast. So I opened the unit up and installed a 3V DC power supply and some isolation diodes to prevent the solar panel from being damaged. Now the unit runs 24/7 and the internal battery remains charged. Bird-B-Gone should consider offering a DC powered version of this product as it clearly does have a place.

Working great at detering birds from my dogs food / bowl
We have a guard dog at our work that stays outside, I couldn't understand how much I thought he was eating. I ended up getting him an automatic dog bowl / feeder as he eats the bowl continues to fill, every time I would come back from the weekend all the food would be gone, then I got him a bigger dog bowl that holds 10 pounds of food and still every time I would come back it would be all gone.I couldn't figure it out, I really thought he was eating that much since I don't know anything about dogs, never had one. Then I just started saying to myself that it can't be he's eating that much, he only eats twice a day when I'm there. I started noticing every time I pull in I see birds at his dog bowl and I see them eating his food. It sounds kind of crazy to me that these birds are eating 10 pounds of food every few days but, I figured it has to be the problem.I went online to find a bird repeller and at first I saw the ultrasonic ones thought that would work best but, they all have really poor reviews and so I was hesitant in purchasing that. Then I found this unit and thought I'd give it a try. It arrived the very next day after placing the order, first thing I did was when I was setting this up, I put in my own Energizer rechargeable AA which has more power than the rechargeables that it came with, I wasn't sure if there would be compatible issues or not but, I went ahead and did it. So I set this up on top of my dogs feeder / bowl, high enough to where he can easily go under there and eat without it bothering him or touching him.Since I have set this up 6 days ago, it has been running just fine and best of all it is working in detering birds. His dog bowl is still 3/4 full from 6 days ago, so it definately was the birds. The unit is still running just fine, I don't know if the solar is working or if it's the rechargeable battery but, I wouldn't mind just having to change the rechargeable battery now and then because this thing is working awesome, there aren't any more birds, when I pull in there aren't any birds. I remember the first day I set it up I saw birds were trying to come and eat something but they were staying away from the unit, I guess they weren't used to this thing and they wouldn't come near the food they were just sitting there in the parking lot but, now they are not coming at all.For my purpose this unit is definatley doing the job and repelling birds.

Charge batteries & low wind
Even though I had it in direct sun for a day, it did not work all the way through the night. I removed the batteries and charged manually, but I also replaced with a higher MAH battery, that appears to have fixed the overnight issue.. The only other downfall is with fails to spin at Wind speeds above 5 miles an hour or more.Overall, it has deterred the geese from coming onto my platform. It would be nice if it would have a higher torque or spin motor for the wind speed issueUPDATE: now, after having it a little bit and even with the bigger storage batteries, it does not spin through the night. In the morning, it’s not spinning and has to charge up a little bit before it starts. Again with the wind speed of about 5 to 10 miles an hour, that also stops it from spinning continuously.Overall, the product seems to be working OK and so far have not had any geese on my dock.

Absolutely no support from the manufacturer
** BUYER BEWARE ** The product has potential but it ended up failing 3 months after purchase. I purchased the extended warranty and when I contacted Asurion, I was told it was still under the factory warranty and had to go thru Bird-B-Gone. I made contact with them and Billy said they would swap out the item however it was out of stock. As soon as it came back in stock, they would send me a new one… That was 4 MONTHS AGO! While their response is faulty quick to emails, their results are horrible and border lines fraudulent. After 3 months waiting, I offered a resolution. I asked if they would simply send me one of their “spider” bird repellers. It does the same thing but doesn’t spin. The response was “my manager would most likely give me push back as it’s not the same item”. No response and a month later I reached out only to get the cookie cutter response “I’m sorry you’re disappointed with my service” and had the ridiculous solution of going thru the extended warranty company that has already rejected the claim. Bummer that I lost out on a $50+ purchase
