Impressive Picture Quality, But Gamers Beware!
TL;DR:The Sony Bravia 5's mini-LED display and XR processor deliver stunning picture quality for movies and TV, but the limited HDMI 2.1 ports are a bummer for serious gamers with multiple consoles. The built-in sound is decent, but a dedicated sound system is still recommended for the best audio experience. Overall, a great TV for most users, especially if picture quality is a top priority.Full Review:Just got my hands on the new Sony Bravia 5, and right out of the box, the picture quality really stood out. Sony’s calling it a mini-LED, and honestly, it’s not just a fancy name—they’ve seriously stepped it up. Compared to my old set, the difference is obvious. The brightness and contrast are immediately noticeable. Bright scenes have this vibrant punch, while darker ones actually look rich without turning into a blurry mess. It’s clear they’ve fine-tuned things to make visuals more dynamic. I’ve seen it side by side with other brands, and the Bravia 5 holds its own—especially with color. Everything just feels more vivid. That’s probably Sony’s XR processor doing its thing, keeping the lighting balanced and details sharp.Design-wise, it’s pretty straightforward. It’s not the thinnest out there, but it looks sleek and modern enough. I like that the stand can be raised—makes space for a soundbar without blocking the screen. Small touch, but really practical.Sony’s XR tech also seems to be working behind the scenes depending on what you’re watching. Whether it’s a movie night or a live game, it adjusts on the fly and keeps things smooth. It also supports Dolby Vision, HLG, and HDR10, which covers most of what you’d need if you care about picture fidelity. For gamers, it supports 4K at 120Hz, which is ideal for newer consoles. The PlayStation 5 integration is a nice bonus—adjusts things automatically. But there’s a bit of a catch: only two HDMI 2.1 ports. And if you’re using a soundbar through eARC, you’re down to one. Not a huge issue if you’re just using one console, but anyone with a more involved setup might feel the pinch.Audio-wise, it’s alright. Sony’s Acoustic Multi-Audio system gives the illusion that sound’s coming from the screen itself, which is pretty cool. It can also team up with a soundbar, though I haven’t tried that yet. For everyday use, the built-in speakers do fine. But if you care a lot about sound, you’ll probably want to add a proper system. All in all, the Bravia 5 is a strong choice. The mini-LED panel and XR processing really deliver when it comes to visuals. The limited HDMI 2.1 ports might annoy some gamers, but for most folks wanting a quality all-around TV, it’s definitely worth a look.---Product: Sony BRAVIA 5 55 Inch TV, Mini LED, 4K Smart Google TV, XR Processor with AI Technology,120hz Television with Dolby Vision/Atmos, Exclusive Features for PlayStation®5, K-55XR50, 2025 Model (55 inch)ASIN: B0DYK8RLHH

Superb Image Quality but Lots of Setting Options to Manage
This 55” Sony Bravia 5 micro LED TV was a significant upgrade from our 10 year old 55” Vizio TV. The image quality of this TV is very impressive and even more so when you’re watching in 4K or Ultra HD. The blacks are much blacker and the colors are vibrant and crisp together with excellent contrast to display a very clear picture. The image quality can be adjusted to suit your surroundings so this is something that you’ll likely end up adjusting to your environment. Unlike our old Vizio TV which had its own operating platform, the current Sony Bravia series uses a Google TV platform. Due to the Google platform, is can take a significant amount of time to set everything up in order to get you up and running if you’re not already connected across your devices with Google. If you’re not particularly tech savvy, you may find this a little frustrating but generally, following the step by step instructions should get you connected successfully. Be prepared with your credentials if you have other streaming accounts such as Netflix, Prime or HBO, etc. We had previously used a ROKU device with our old TV but the interface with the Google TV platform is quite different.Beyond the account settings, there are a multitude of settings to control the image and sound quality along with a many extras included with this TV, one of which includes 5 credits towards rentable movies on the Sony Core channel, as well as access to over 100 free movies for 12 months. You do have to register for an account but they have a good selection of movies, some of which were not available on our other streaming platforms. Be aware that some of the movies stream at a very high data rate so having a good data stream is needed to get optimal quality. Depending on the streaming service, there may be options to control the streaming quality from within that service. There are other extras like screen savers, alarms and customizable image settings along with a whole host of apps that we’ve only just begun to explore. When it comes to direct connectivity, this TV provides multiple inputs for connecting your devices and accessories but be aware that not all HDMI inputs are the same. We had to utilize HDMI 3 which is also labeled eArc to get audio output through our receiver. Not sure why this limitation exists as we could use any HDMI port on our old TV for full connectivity. Thankfully, our DVD player, which although seldom used these days, still provides connectivity automatically through the same input from our receiver, even allowing us use of the Sony remote to control our other devices. Again, much of the picture quality is processed by the TV to provide optimal imagery even on older DVDs.With all the added extras and features that this TV offers, this 4K TV provides a stunning visual experience but the user interface does require some time and effort to gain access to many of the included features with this TV. From a price standpoint, it’s also somewhat higher than average but I think some of this comes with the Sony brand. All thing considered, this could be a 5 star TV if it weren't for the over complicated user interface and higher than average price, so 4 stars.
