Borla 40944 XR-1 Stainless Steel Sportsman Racing Oval Muffler, 3"

PERFECT!!! This muffler was the miracle I needed to quiet down my exhaust. Although, don't take that the wrong way as I was coming from the other end of the spectrum(exhaust way too LOUD...not like most who maybe install this for a deeper/throatier sound). Installed on 1998 A4 1.8T w/Big Turbo setup. Before installing this, I had started my build with making an exhaust the simplest way possible(straight pipe) and adding mufflers/resonators from there to quiet it down to the right level. 1st setup was 3" turbo back to a generic(Columbia River Mandrel Bends) muffler at the end...WAY too loud. 2nd setup was adding a Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator near the rear axle...WAY too loud(props to the Vibrant Ultra Quiet though as it did help a bit in muffling the noise a bit and taking out some of the drone...on a setup obviously needing more than just a small resonator. 3rd setup was adding a high flow cat to the mix...WAY too loud...I don't think it actually changed anything in anyway 4th setup....NOW I had decided I was once and for all going to fix this. Purchased two 3" silicone couplers, hacked off my generic muffler at the rear, and planned to gently couple the 4 different muffler I ordered to the exhaust to see which made the most difference...then I'd weld in the final solution. I started by coupling the Vibrant 1149 Streetpower Muffler. This made a pretty noted difference in that the tone at idle was a bit deeper and the reverb through the cabin while revving to 3k RPM's was improved by about 30%. I then attached the Borla 40944 XR-1 and now followed it directly with that Vibrant 1149 Streetpower Muffler. I started it up and was SHOCKED at the difference the Borla Muffler made. Mind you, the mock up was not as you'd usually attached these, being that they were plummer directly to one another with no piping in between. But I was so impressed with the 2 pieces that I removed my Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator and High Flow Cat and welded in the Borla XR-1 and the Vibrant Streetpower Muffler. I never even tried the 3 other muffler I had ordered to test with as the Borla XR-1 had quieted the exhaust so well that I knew there was nothing that could be better....AND it's a straight through design!! The Final Result: 3" turbo back to Borla 40944 XR-1 to Vibrant Streetpower Muffler The Sound: I feel that the Borla XR-1 is mostly to thank for fixing my terribly droany and overall LOUD exhaust....my car now has a smooth, low toned idle, the droan was reduced about 80-90% over the original setup, and the sound under full boost pulls is amazing!!

Sounds great ! Gives that true hot Rod street sound , no popping or cracking . Sounds tough under WOT yet quiter when cruising!

I have had this muffler for over a year. It sounds amazing and start up. It quiets down after warm up to factory sound. I am older so I did not want drone or obnoxious. This is my first borla. I will not use another manufacturer again!!! I have had many and this thing is awesome. I have a 5.7 hemi and under light or heavy acceleration the sound is intoxicating. When cruising you would not know I have a after market muffler. At start up or when you punch it you know. And that’s not all No DRONE a big fat zero. The only bad sound you get is when the mds kicks in and that is not on borla, it’s not to bad when it happens and I can live with that. Check out borla it’s a game changing product!

Great muffler for my Silverado.. I dont care for raspy mufflers. The xr1 has a deep sound and has a performance sound when you romp on it. No drone on the highway. This is exactly what I was wanting!

Muffler sounds great, zero drone. Used this muffler in a custom exhaust for a Nissan Titan. Even with an exit on front of the rear wheel (maybe 20" or less pipe after the muffler) there is no resonance in the cab

After buying a used muffler here in warehouse...the welds didnt look right......so i returned it and bought new....welds didnt look clean......i contacted Borla about it....and they offered to send me another or give me a discount on the one i already bought if i installed it.......so i took the discount.....awesome sounding muffler on my 04 Nissan Titan with b pipes......gonna open her up more with headers next.....

I got two of these. I put one on a 6cyl and one on a 4cyl. The one on the 3.2L v6 sounds great, it has drone at 55mph but on this car it doesn't matter. The one on the 2L 4cyl really did not wake the car up. Its the wrong size for a 4cyl unless its boosted.

Mmmmmmmm... Put this muffler on my 2005 Volvo S60 R (only a catback with 3 inch piping) and it sounds wonderful! It does have more of a drone going down the highway than I anticipated, but very small price to pay given the wonderful sound! Shipping was also astonishing, selected free shipping and the muffler arrived within 4 days, about 5 days before the earliest estimated ship date. All in all, very happy with this muffler!

I own a 2019 f150 5.0 an I installed this muffler for a better sound an it worked beautifully. Sounds great around town with a great rumble,not to loud or to quiet but I also left the resonator on. Once the truck is up to speed it quiets itself down..I give it 5/5 👍👍 totally recommended.

Way too loud and too much drone for my liking on my 5.0 F-150.
