Good product but be careful of gauge thickness
I've been familiar with wire gauge since childhood and knew that the bigger the gauge number, the thinner the wire. I needed some thin vinyl and when I started to order it I saw it was sold by gauge. I was a little confused by the few instances that listed the thickness in inches or millimeters. It seemed wrong. I was confident in my knowledge of wire, however, so I just assumed the thicknesses listed were typographical errors - and ordered 40 gauge vinyl. What arrived was not thin. It was quite thick.I never realized how nonsensical a measurement gauge is. After some research I learned the same gauge number has a different thickness for wire, sheet steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and others. They are ALL DIFFERENT. Gauge is ridiculous. It's the worst measurement you can imagine. It's like a bunch of drunken monkeys got together and just made something up. So, vendors PLEASE provide a real measurement for your product. Use inches and or millimeters. Gauge is meaningless.Enter Fabric.com customer service. They were amazing. After talking to them I ordered "6 gauge". I decided to keep both my 6 & 40 gauge vinyl and I will post this information under both."6 gauge" vinyl is good for making book covers or covering a card table. It's tough and doesn't tear easily but can be comfortably cut by holding a pair of scissors partially open and pushing across the vinyl. My micrometer measured the actual thickness at about 0.005 inches."40 gauge" vinyl is something you would use to replace the back window of an old Miata. It's thick (my micrometer says about 0.035 inches) and cannot be cut easily with regular scissors. It can be easily cut using a straight edge and a hobby knife. It's flexible and cannot stand up by itself.

Great compromise for not having a glass top table
Couldn't afford a glass table top on my painted wooden kitchen table, so tried this based on other reviews, and it works beautifully! Heavy thick vinyl that was easy to trim into the oval shape of my table. Even fooled my guests into believing it was a glass top. Only thing I didn't like was the way some things were sticking to it, so I sprayed with pledge and buffed the top, and now things slide easily and it doesn't feel sticky any more. Would highly recommend.

Great for doggie door replacement
I bought this to replace the flaps on the doggie door. It worked great and was a third of the price of the manufacturers replacement flap. It was not as thick as the original so I stuck two pieces together It sticks to its self very well plus I put a little tape around the border to help hold it together. It works great. I ordered a yard and probably received about a yard and a half. There is enough left for a second replacement in a few years after the dog chews up the edges. It was shipped in a roll around a cardboard tube which was placed in a long box. It arrived without damage. I didn't have any trouble cutting it with the kitchen scissors.

Solved our problem
We have a steel grated window well cover and wanted to keep the water out. Buying a generic plastic cover from the lumber yard would be in excess of $100 and would not be as sturdy as our steel cover. Buying a dedicated steel cover already covered in plastic was several hundred dollars. We cut the plastex fabric to fit our cover and since the cover was painted white used white silicon caulk to attach it to our existing steel grate cover. I drilled a hole on each side and used a self tapping screw to give additional hold down strength. It worked perfectly and saved a lot of money.

Do not use as a convertible window replacement
I specifically bought this because it says good for a convertible window replacement. It is most definitely NOT. First off. The piece is supposed to be clear. It came 2/3 of it clear and 1/3 unpolished on one side. It was covered on one side with white paper, so I did not notice until I had spent hours sewing the rain bead on the window - see pictures. Second. The minor imperfections - supposedly part of the manufacturing process - are everywhere. There was a raised bead running the full length at 1 ft intervals. The dimples which permeate the material do not give you a clear view out the window, especially at night - see pictures. This material can be seen and will protect things just fine. But since I bought it solely for a purpose they said it was for, and it failed at that miserably, 1 star.

Heavy Duty Vinyl, Useable for a UTV, Windshield!
First let me say this vinyl is great. It is thick, durable, clear & pretty easy to sew on! This is very thick, so it does distort vision to some degree, for what I am using it for. I can live with that, as we use if off the main roads. It keeps out the wind & cold, great. I used a heavy duty needle, outdoor thread, on the longest length stitch my machine would set at. It sewed well, and never tore. It does stick to the table etc., so I put a towel under it to slid it along better. I made a windshield for our side by side, Kioti. To buy one would have cost about $300 from the dealer. Using this & misc. other materials, I made one for about $30. The ONLY reason I am docking one star is because of how it was cut. I ordered one yard. Both cut ends, of the vinyl were uneven, & measured from 36 to 33.5 inches. After carefully measuring and cutting, I was able to get about an even, 29 inch x 55inch piece. So be prepared to cut it even, possibly both length sides, and if you only need a yard like I did, you might want to order more. If this had been a full even 36 inches long, I would have had enough of it to make the rear window as well. It still is a great product, & I will probably get more at some time!LA Linen 40-Gauge Roll off UV Rated / By The Yard / Clear Vinyl
