Life-Size Zoo: From Tiny Rodents to Gigantic Elephants, An Actual-Size Animal Encyclopedia Hardcover – April 7, 2009

We took our daughter to the zoo, and she was completely fascinated. Because of this interest, I was looking for some sort of book about zoos and animals, and this came up in my search. It's a great educational book (although I have noticed a few typos) and my daughter loves the fold outs of the larger animals (they are life-sized). She points to the animals, and attempts to imitate their sounds.A good variety of animals is included: panda, zebra, red panda, tiger, capybara, giraffe, gorilla, koala, sloth, meerkat, prarie dog, aardvark, hedgehog, armadillo, elephant (& calf),tapir, anteater, sea lion, camel, and rhinoceros.I enjoy the interesting facts that are listed. Most are probably unfamiliar, but educational (like identifying the different types of zebra by their patterns). But others are just strange (some are about pooping -- pandas poop 100 small poops a day; capybaras poop in the water). I don't read the facts to my daughter yet, but I will when she's old enough. There is a section titled "Time for a Close Up" in which questions are asked to get the reader to notice details about the animals' features (ex. the shape of the animal's head, the number of toes, the sandpaper-like tongue). The page also lists the given name of animal pictured (ex. Kou Kou the giant panda), the approximate age, & scientific name.This is a fantastic book for a young child interested in wild animals!

After reading the rave reviews by other users on the life-size zoo series, I decided to buy two books for my 2 kids (aged 4.5 and 1.5). They absolutely love the books! My younger girl just couldn't resist kissing some of the cuddly animals on the book, and was a little afraid of the scarier ones.It would have been better if the centre binder of the book was done in such a way that the book could open 180 degrees without distorting the image (centre portion of the image that spreads across two pages are distorted by the binder).Nonetheless still a great buy. Really high quality pictures and fine detail. Makes great presents for young kids.Thank you!

Bought the book for my grandson to be. Don’t understand why it couldn’t be shipped to my home address in Hawaii.I already had one copy of this book for my new granddaughter and wanted one for the grandson who is due next Thursday. As a mom and teacher I love the book.

my daughter loves loves this book and was borrowing it from the school library every chance she got. So I finally bought a used copy. The book has some wear, but no markings, and one of the pages had a big tear in it (I just taped it up and it's fine). Great price for the book though.

Awesome book! I recently found this at our local library for our zoo theme (preschool). I will definitely be purchasing this book. I strongly recommend the hard cover format for a book like this. I forsee it getting a lot of use. The life size pictures have such detail. The children were touching the pages to see if they could feel the skin...it was that real! For each animal there are facts for the animals as well. Perfect for preschool and up.

I bought this for my 2 year old son who loves animals. The photographs are amazing - highly detailed. He loves the book. What is great about this book is it is going to grow with him and be a resource for him for years to come. Right now, we just read the basic verse on each page. As he gets older though, he's going to love reading all of the little facts and trivia about each animal that is also on each page.

This is a great book for any child who likes animals. It's larger than standard picture books. It contains pictures of a Tiger, Giant Panda, Red Panda, Sea Lion, Meerkat, Giraffe, Tapir, Zebra, Camel and Rhino. The pictures are very very detailed; you can see the wrinkles on the elephants and the whiskers on the Sea Lions. Each page contains a brief description about the animal, including name, sex and fun facts. My son loves it and I would highly recommend it.

Unless you see this book in person, it is hard to visualize, but it gives an entirely new perspective to the animal kingdom. Viewing a large-scale image of even a familiar animal's face, such as an elephant, renders it almost unfamiliar, with all the bumps, hairs, whiskers, etc. It is also just a beautiful book, almost a work of art. I have recommended this book to adults I know who are involved with animals, in addition to stocking up on it for kids' presents.

This book is lovely to show your child how big/small animals can be im not sure how acurate they are but they give a good idea. The only thing i would say is that the person who wrote the book does seem to have a thing for telling you how all about the animals poo. and the book doesnt really include alot about the animal itself, that is except for its poo?

My kids love how large these photos are. Great for telling stories. I had to purchase this book because my daughter kept borrowing it from her school library.

テレビで紹介されているのを見て購入。子供はまだ５ヶ月で動物の詳細などは自分で読まないのと、私がchildren's bookを集めていることもあり、英語版を購入。とてもインパクトがあり面白いですが、実物大と言ってもそこはやはり本。もちろん全体像は載せられない訳で…象など大きな動物は顔がはみ出て全体は見られない。もう少し大きな子供で、実物を見たことがあれば、はみ出て見えない部分も補えるのかも。もしくはインテリア？？おしゃれですが、そこまで良い本とは思えません…中の動物の解説はとても詳しいです。
