BriarTek Cerberus Two-Way Satellite Messaging and GPS Tracking System

I purchased this in hopes to be able to use it on some upcoming hikes on the Colorado Trail and Appalachian trail. Well it will not turn on unless its plugged in to the wall not going to do any good out in the middle of nowhere. I am returning the Cerberus. The customer service with Cerberus BriarTek is horrible. I couldn't even get it set up to use which I guess is a blessing in disguise since the thing wont turn on unless plugged in. I called several times and kept getting a voice mail. Never received a call back. Their website to set up is down it keeps saying oops you lost you should have had a Cerberus, page not found. I was able to go on to the cerbercenter and add my info and payment info but that was it. Never could get it set up or working. I am very disappointed in this purchase after seeing other reviews saying how great the customer service is and how great the product works out in the field. I would be very careful purchasing one. I am not even sure BriarTek is still in business since I could never get anything but a voice recordings and voice mail. If you are thinking about getting one I would try and rent one if you can ever get a hold of anyone to see if it actually will work and to see if the company is even in business anymore.

I have rented this unit direct from BriarTek. It worked well even in tree cover. I was able to keep in touch with my pregnant wife despite being hour from any cell service. There are status lights that tell you if a message is waiting, so you don’t have to leave your phone on all the time. You do however have to use thier app and setup contacts before you head out. The battery lasted me a week without recharging, and I texted my wife a couple times a day.
