Sturdy. Steady.
Bought this for my 2024 F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 Shortbed with 3.5 EcoBoost.Fit is snug in truck's receiver. If you get the version with the security hardware, the bolt is not supposed to go all the way through - look at the product pictures, installation guide and YouTube videos. It's very easy to install - 1 minute or less.Be careful about buying Allen wrenches. When I added the BumpStep XL to my cart, it gave me the option to purchase "Luomorgo 2 Pcs 12mm/1/2 Inch Allen Wrench, L Shaped Hex Key Wrench, Heavy Duty Steel Hexagon Wrench Tool for Repairing, Installation." I needed a 1/2" Allen wrench to install the Bumpstep XL, so I ordered it. From the description, I thought I was going to get one 12mm Allen wrench and one 1/2" Allen wrench, but what I received were two 12mm Allen wrenches. 12mm is .03" smaller than 1/2", so, the fit is slightly loose in a 1/2" hex head bolt, but it is sufficient enough for this application and I didn't round out the hex bolt. Just be careful when ordering a 1/2" Allen wrench to be sure that is exactly what you will be receiving. Also, perhaps they have upgraded the design since D. Watson posted his review on 9/13/2020, but I tried (carefully) stepping on the extreme edges to see if the step would deform or twist and it did not and I'm 225 pounds. Still, I probably wouldn't jump and down on it and I think stepping in the center area is still the safest bet.My truck came with a factory bumper step - unfortunately, with WeatherTech BumpStep XL installed, I cannot get the truck's bumper step to fold down - just a fraction more clearance is required. No big deal - the BumpStep is a better step, anyway. It does not interfere with any of the sensors that I can tell.

If you order Theft Deterrent hardware incomplete
If you order Theft Deterrent hardware, you DON'T get the 1/2" Allen Wrench for installation. The tool is hard to find and should be included for the steep price!

WeatherTech BumpStep XL is better than the standard WeatherTech BumpStep. No wobble, no rattle!
Previously, I had returned the standard WeatherTech BumpStep because it wasn't big enough for my needs (the Amazon listing for it had the dimensions wrong).I replaced it with this WeatherTech BumpStep XL, and I like it much better! Not only is it wider, but it's also higher (4" instead of 2 1/2"), thicker from front to back, and is available with great installation hardware.Best of all, when you use the Weathertech hardware included with this BumpStep XL (rather than a standard hitch pin), it fits snug and sturdy, doesn't wobble or rattle at all! Mine had the stainless steel theft-resistant hardware with Allen key, but the regular plated steel hardware should also be wobble-free and rattle-free, compared to a standard hitch pin.The Weathertech hardware uses a lockwasher, plus a regular washer, plus a hexagonal nut to lock the BumpStep XL firmly in place. The theft-resistant version (which I got) uses a 1/2" Allen key to tighten it. It's theft-resistant simply because this is a very large Allen key which most people don't have in their toolbox. Most standard Allen keys top out at 1/4" or 3/8", including the ones in my toolbox, so I bought the WeatherTech Allen key along with the BumpStep XL "stainless steel theft-resistant hardware."Tip: As with all things installed with Allen keys, I recommend grasping the short end when tightening it, so you don't over-tightening it, because you want to be able to remove it someday. When loosening it to remove it, grasp the long end of the Allen key to get more leverage. The instructions say "do not overtighten (approximately 30-40 foot/pounds of torque)", but unless you have a torque-pound meter in your tool kit, simply tighten it while grasping the short end of the Allen wrench, and that will prevent you from accidentally overtightening it.STURDINESS from collisions: From the looks of it, it is thicker than the standard BumpStep from front to rear, so it should provide more crash-resistance from rear-end accidents.STURDINESS when used as a step: It easily held a 215-pound man when centered on the BumpStep XL. It's rated for 300 pounds, but...WARNING: if you don't center your foot on the BumpStep while using it as a step, it begins to flex (bend or twist) to the left or right, so be careful to center your foot on the BumpStep XL!Do not step on the extreme right or left sides of the 24" BumpStep XL, as I fear it would probably break!I would lower its rating to 4.5 stars because of this, but since Amazon doesn't allow 4.5 stars, I'll leave it at 5 stars, but with this WARNING not to step on the extreme left or right sides of this BumpStep XL.

Perfect!
Bought this for my husband's Silverado which is a bit hard to reach into the bed. It is perfect. He and the grandchildren both love it. It was super easy to install.

Very disappointing - item wouldn't fit into a standard 2" receiver hitch
A few years ago I had one of these and was very happy with it. I recently bought an XL version to protect the rear end of my 2024 Toyota 4Runner. The truck came with a factory installed 2" receiver hitch. When I tried to mount this bump step, there was no way it would fit into the receiver. There is just too much material at each of the 4 corners and it prevented insertion. I thought about grinding off a little material at each of the corners; but chose instead to return this item and find an alternative.

Good Quality--The XL looks much better than the regular size, and more functional
So, these WeatherTech bump-steps are good sturdy products, and they look good too, even though a little on the pricy side. I ordered both the regular size and the XL size which is about twice as wide (see photos) and twice as expensive. Since I bought them as much for the looks than the functionality, I kept the XL, which I think looks a lot better on a Honda Ridgeline Black Edition (again, see photos). The XL comes with the hitch pin but the regular size does not. The pin that comes is a bit bulky and not easily removable without tools, so I opted to buy a locking pin which easily comes off to replace the bump step with a bike rack. The XL is wide enough, and sturdy enough to comfortably sit on to change into my hiking boots and there will be no issues standing/stepping on it to step into the truck bed. Overall I highly recommend this both for the looks and the functionality as a step, though I would hope I never know the effectiveness against bumps!

Quality appearance, rugged, easy to install.
Unlike some reviews this couldn't have been easier to install. It's possible those who thought the supplied bolt was too short didn't realize it fits inside the structure of the step. Looks good, works well as a step and hopefully I won't find out how it works if I'm rear-ended.

bump step.
works perfectly well. i haven't figured out the bolt system, not sure why they don't simply send a bolt that is long enough to fit through the hole to accept the nut from the other end. so i'm gonna get one tomorrow because it'll be easier than trying to figure out their system, as simple as it may be. over all, it's gonna be a great addition, especially since my new cap is gonna have barn doors...

The kind of solution that meets all needs.
In Ontario we can't leave trailer hitches in car while not pulling anything. This offers first a safety measure in case of rear bumper hit; plus a step for pets to get into SUV; and finally helps in loading handicap devices to prevent damage to vehicle.
