Impressive quality and durability
This is a great ax, the heavy head and broad blade pair well with the 36โ handle. While I havenโt felled a tree with it, it has been quite useful for busting up stumps and chopping out roots. Despite the harsh treatment and working environment the blad holds up well. To be fair I clean, oil, and apply a fresh edge with a bastard file after each use - but the extra time has been worth it and easily made up with increased productivity. One of the elite axes may be better for other purposes but I just donโt see using a high end fellers axe to root and stump. On the other hand using a โbig boxโ axe I have found far more time invested in trying to make a good edge only to have the ax dull after only a few swings.

Good axe for a reasonable price.
The handle is very comfortable as it comes. There was no need to reshape it or thin it down. The Dayton pattern head is efficient and leads to accuracy. I haven't used it enough to determine how well the edge will hold up. I have only used it on softwoods, pine, fir, and cedar. So far so good. I also like that it is American made. One of the last brands that gives good quality for the money.

Great tool for the money
Great tool for the money. Handle could have been better but I am happy overall.

Good axe head but poor handle.
The axe head is great for most jobs. But the handle is prone to breaking. I bought this with the fiberglass handle instead, the second time around.

Council tool " in God we trust"
I have the Hudson Bay velvicut, the velvicut boys axe, a council tool 4 pounder , the combi-tool, and now this one. I'm a fan to say the least.

A great buy. Would prefer it with a longer handle ...
A great buy.Would prefer it with a longer handle but with the 20" it does a fine job felling, bucking and splitting. Holds an edge very well, bit is rough ground but with very good geometry so the finish is not a concern. Comes out of the box dull, but if you know what you are doing with a file it will clean up well with little work. Not the ideal axe for all work, but very well made for what it is.
