Awesome little machine
Almost as good as equipment 10 times bigger than it. Easily portable. Had some trouble installing the software in a PC but had a mac to put it in.

If you have more money, buy the Pro
I had a Digi 001 and downgraded to mbox2. It sounds worse than 001, it is much more unstable too. I didn't have money to buy a 002 at the time but I should the mbox pro when I have enough money. The firewire woks much better than the usb 1.0.Well, Igave 3 stars cause it still beeing a Protools system.

DO NOT SHIP THIS TO AFGHANISTAN
about a month ago i went through the foolish mistake of purchasing an MBox 2 from amazon which i believed took it from electronica direct. a few years ago a buddy of mine had the mbox1 it was alright it did what it was supposed to do. so i decided to get the mbox 2 shipped out to me in Afghanistan. dumb idea.amazon will take your money even if you don't receive the product. especially when shipping things to Afghanistan.just don't do it

Master of Mediocrity.
I really wanted to like this product, but I can't get behind it. Even for a hobbyist. Another reviewer on here said to save up and buy a Focusrite unit, and after owning this Mbox 2 unit with Pro Tools LE since 2007, I can honestly say that I agree with that reviewer. The biggest problem I have with this as an audio interface is that it's really marketed for use with Pro Tools (ref: description on Amazon). I don't understand why an audio interface links to the computer via USB when Pro Tools nearly insists on the Firewire interface. The Mbox 2 doesn't have a Firewire out, only USB. This creates a HUGE issue (error 6085) in the DAW where the information isn't being transferred at a fast enough rate. Go check out the Avid forums; nearly any moderator on there'll tell you to make sure PT is installed on the OS hard drive whilst your session files and plug-ins are installed on a separate drive, and ensure your interface is connected via Firewire (USB - 480 Mb/sec., Firewire - 800Mb/sec.).The Mbox 2 is also powered via USB, and it needs to be plugged in to the computer in order to be powered. I would prefer an audio interface that has the ability to be turned off with an on/off switch, and powered with an external power supply. The internal pre's are garbage, and the Mbox is notorious for this. I purchased an Art Digital MPA II to bypass the pre's on the Mbox. Just connect your preamp to the Mbox 2 via S/PDIF and make sure PT recognizes this. The only "pro" I'd give this interface is that is has an S/PDIF input to bypass it's pre's because that's the only thing that made this unit usable over the past years, and that was with a $300 upgrade from the ART preamp. Having said that, just cough up another chunk of change for a decent unit elsewhere. The Avid support forums are awful as well.
