In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

UndeFEETable!
I bought these for my 6 year old's 3rd wrestling season. I noticed right away that the quality seems much better than the entry level shoes he's had in the past. We had some cheapo's in previous seasons but since he's firmly committed I wanted better shoes for him. These are brilliantly designed and the 2 piece tread is very comfortable compared to the one piece.Just to note for anyone concerned about sizing... I have an 8 year old who wears the same size shoe. He has very wide feet and these Cael V5.0 GS's are much narrower than his MatFlex GS3's (also great shoes) that he wears. If your child has wider feet, this might not be the right shoe.

He loves them
My son loves these shoes. This new version is better than the others!!! Wears them over 20 hrs a week during wresttling season, and they still look brand new!! Too bad his feet keep growing and he has to get a new pair every year. Oh well, they'll still be good for his younger cousins to wear.

Great shoe for young wrestlers
We had this same style and loved it so much we got another pair. They are nice b/c they have a sole specific for the toes and another for the heel (split). They wore really well, as my son wrestled in over 100 matches plus 3-4 times of week of practice for 9 months. Only reason we got a new pair was b/c he grew out of the old ones. Laces and seams all held up well. It is a bit of work to take on and off of laced wrestling shoes but well worth a fit that feels like a sock. They are also very lightweight. We will be planning to buy another pair once he grows out of these.

The Best Available
Asics appear to be the king of wrestling shoes. These in particular are Cael V5.0 the current top of the Cael Sanderson line for Asics. The envy of other wrestlers. We bought these for our grandson. I compared his Nike wrestling shoes to the Asics and they most definitely have a lot more tread on the bottom. Judging on that alone, it was clear why these shoes fetch a handsome price. Seller was prompt, no problems at all.

Great Overall. But I would rethink if you're looking for a Practice shoe for a Child Athlete.
First things first, This shoe is nicely made although I can't speak of the longterm b/c my son has only owned them for 2 months. My son at the moment is 6 years old and can tie his shoes but not very tight or quickly. In retrospect I remember reading some reviews on some wrestling shoes with velcro and reading that they were really helpful b/c of the ease especially with younger kids. I didn't pay any mind to that b/c I wanted the best shoe & this is "arguably" 1 of the best shoes. Also if my son was say Wrestling competitively I would probably purchase 2 pairs. Velcro for Practice and this pair for competition. Also these run a little small my son is a 1 in most shoes and I ordered a 1 and it was flush with his toe so had to return via Prime ( so np of course) got size 2 still a little smaller than i thought but enough space to last him a bit I believe.2 Months later I would have really loved to have listened to those parents' reviews. My son is in MMA so he does wrestling/striking but also his coach takes him through jogs around our downtown area before class. Wreslting shoes for obvious health reasons should not be used to run in. So we have to then tie his shoes decently quick as soon as he comes back b/c his coach keeps things flowing at a pretty good pace and is upbeat. Where as with velcro my son would simply Velcro them right back up and be ready. Also when practice is over he has to stay sitting on the mat untieing and taking off his shoes to put on his flip flops when he could have just velcroed them back on. (Wrestling shoes do take a little longer than a regular shoe to remove if tied nicely.)It's just little things like this maybe if my son was like 9yrs. old or so this would of been a 5 star for me for sure but because my son is a Kid 6yrs old, does not wrestle competitively and the fact that there is some Great Quality Velcro shoes out there I give it a 4 star. This is based on pure Personal Opinion and primarly on the age of my child not the quality of the shoe. Once again the Quality is Awesome although I can't speak on durability but because I think the ease of transitioning into Velcro shoes on and off the mat for a Younger Athelete is just priceless. At first i thought w/e but honestly it's one less thing to worry about my son is in multiple sports and little things like this really help me and perhaps some of you feel the same way with your busy little athletes.
