As you can see from the reviews, this vacuum is controversial. Some love it, some hate it. No vacuum is perfect. But my honest opinion is: -It's great quality. Doesn't look or feel cheap at all. -It cleans both floors and carpets really well. I'm impressed how easily travels around on different surfaces picking up all the dirt efficiently. -It's so easy to clean under the beds, furnitures and along the edges now. After so many years using upright vacuums I was a little sick of them. They miss these areas. -It's the quietest vacuum I've had in a long, long time. - I don't think it's heavy and the dirt container is not small. So I'm contradicting some reviews. But again, no vacuum is perfect: - You have to get used to the design of canister vacuums. You pull the canister (which is no big deal for me). And of course you have to be careful with the "snake" as you clean. Don't trip yourself! -They use a little more storage space. I hope this review helps you make the right decision. I think I did.

It is a good cleaner - and quiet - I like the way it cleans the carpet. The thing I like best is the retractable cord and the length. The thing I do not like is the unit is not swivel --doesn't turn easily from one direction to another.

This Kenmore DC5070 500 Series vacuum is a keeper. I hope it lasts as some comments say it didn't and they had trouble with it. Vacuuming is not high on my housekeeping to-dos but I have a dog that sheds quite a bit. I wanted a lightweight, bagless canister (I tried others) and this fit the bill. It is more quiet than my older Kenmore bag canister, one of the first things I noticed, other than the sturdiness of the vacuum itself. I like the great suction and the fact that the wand components click securely together. Decent cord length, longer than some others. The motorized nozzle has a light so I can see under the bed (someplace I could not vacuum with my upright) as well as everywhere else I go with it and being motorized and swivels make the job easier. It's convenient that I don't have to change the nozzle between floors or carpets. However, this vacuum does not like high pile carpet but the small brush, that conveniently fits on the back, does a decent job because of the great suction, just takes a little longer because it's smaller. My home is mostly floors with a few throw rugs so this is not a huge problem for me. Storage is easy as it hooks together to move as one piece. Lastly, the downside of bagless vacuums is the hair and dirt that needs dumping. This too is easy enough and it has a large capacity dust cup to handle my needs. No I do not like the dirt that may need to be wiped out afterwards, but that's to be expected with a bagless vacuum of any brand. I have an extra set of filter pads so I can immediately switch them out and not have to wait for them to dry after rinsing.

I got this vacuum this past April. I really liked it, it had nearly all the features I wanted in a vacuum. I’m very picky about my vacuums because we use it daily and I have used a lot of different ones over the last 14 years that I’ve worked as a housekeeper. The suction was good and it was simple to use. I did have to buy a hard wood floor attachment to fit it but that’s not a big deal. The biggest issue is that less than 6 months into owning it, all of a sudden the motor head won’t work any more. I have checked all the connections and can not get it to start again which makes it useless for rugs and carpets. I always made sure to turn the setting all the way off before detaching the motor head to not mess with the electrical connections. My last vacuum was about the same price and lasted me almost 9 years and only needed to be replaced because a plastic connection broke at the handle and the vacuum isn’t made any more. This should have at least lasted us more than 6 months.

I LOVE my new vacuum! I have three dogs and two cats. I’ve been through a Dyson, a Shark, even a Kirby, and none of them picked up the pet hair and crumbs on my wood floors like this one. Leave it to good ol’ Kenmore to do the best job. Other vacs “spit out” crumbs and hair as I vacuumed my floors. This one does not and makes my work so much easier. Only thing I worry about is that the machine is all plastic. It’s nice and light because of it, but I just hope it’s durable. Overall, I’m so happy. (Clearly, I’m getting old if I get excited over a vacuum, ha!)
