Whistler’s top of the line model, the WS1080 is a handheld digital trunking scanner with Motorola P25 Phase I, X2-TDMA and Phase II capabilities. It is ready to use out of the box with all USA/Canada frequencies pre-programmed onto the included SD card. It offers ease of use with a multifunction keypad and has Virtual Scanner mode that can store 200 various scanner configurations. The WS1080 also permits recording by scannable object and saves into a Windows compatible file.

Works great and easy to program if you do your homework. Print out the easier to read manual from marksscanners.com and also the System for your state and county from radioreference.com and make yourself familiar with both. Use the "Browse Library" method of programming and you will be scanning your local P25 system in no time. Pick and choose the categories and talkgroups you want to listen to. The "Set Location" method of programming using zip code will work but will include too many talkgroups of no interest, plus it names your scanlists. Be patient and study the reference materials above before attempting to program.

Programming was easy to learn with the EZ Scan program
This is the first scanner I've purchased since the RS Pro95 was new. I've been into scanning since the first 4 channel crystal radios came out. Programming was easy to learn with the EZ Scan program. I chose to enter my frequencies the "preferred" way instead of by zip code. If you take the time to read and understand it, you can take advantage of everything this scanner has to offer in a very short time. I approached it like scanning was new to me and not assume that this radio would work like every other one. Set it up correctly the first time and then play with everything AFTER you get it going! Great radio, but invest in another antenna. The stock one is just like all the others that come with new radios, you'll always want better. My radio is used everywhere with me, at home and on the road.

Awesome product
Nice!!! One of if not the BEST scanner I've had. And I've had a few. Didn't know if I'd like not have a key pad but I'm liking this scanner as is. Very easy to use & I'm definitely recommending this scanner to all my friends!

Fairly easy to program. Great reception with the included antenna. More banks than I would ever need. Top notch customer service from Whistler. Handles South Carolina’s digital trunking network without any glitches. My favorite scanner

Best scanner
This was for my 40-something nephew. He has had probably 6 handheld scanners over the last 10 years as he wears them out. He says that this is by far the BEST scanner he has ever had. And it's not the most expensive one we've purchased. It's a very good value for the price.

Sent this scanner back and ordered the TRX-1
Compared this scanner with Uniden BCD 436 and Whistler TRX-1. The TRX 1 wins hands down.
