Russia (Lonely Planet Guide)
What an absolutely fabulous book! I have it on my bedside table and read bits of it every night. The attention to detail is second to none. The book , just short of 800 pages starts off with trips you could take round Russia combining road rail and river and places of interest to stop off and see, with a rough idea of how long it will take you. The book then tells you about the very colourful history of Russia and all its rulers and theyre grisly demise, from 30,000BC to present in very easy to read style, and very interesting little snippets of information throughout the book. There are detailed road maps of all the cities and bus routes and the times and days they run. Full details of Hotels with telephone numbers, restaurants and bars are all listed. It even tells you where the best fishing rivers lakes and lagoons are, though they are very expensive apparently! There is a very interesting chapter on the environment national parks and reserves, and the Steppes. But the bit I like the best, is the secion at the back on the Russian language, it taxed my brain so much, that I ordered The Lonely Planet Russian Phrasebook, also from Amazon and that is fab too. To conclude, If you love Russia or even have a slight interest in this country, you will love this book,my review cannot give this book justice, I have barely scratched the surface.

Very good guide!
Very comprehensive travel guide for Russia. Has everything you might need. Highly recommended. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of five are some areas we visited were not there... But Russia is a big country so fair enough!

Pack this guide with you if go to Russia!
This is a great guide for Russia. It has all the major towns and cities listed and gives very good and concise information about history and where to go and visit for each of them. The best thing about this guide is that it has maps of the city centre for most of the towns/cities, which was very helpful in our trip, as we didn't need to buy extra maps for each city individually. This is a good book if you are going to visit several places on your journey. Its quite big and heavy but extremely useful. I would not advise to buy it if you are only visiting Moscow and St.Petersburg.

Was a great help both before and during our trip to Russia ...
Was a great help both before and during our trip to Russia until it was stolen with my fanny pack in St. Petersburg. We were warned about ripoffs in Moscow (where we had absolutely no trouble) but not in St. Petersburg ( where we did - after several foiled attempts I might add).

Needs a Little More Work
A good first try for an interactive book, articles are hyperlinked throughout, with external links to some very interesting websites. On the negative side, detailed maps do not have enough resolution to read easily, and zooming doesn't help. The inclusion of the index is puzzling, as it serves no purpose as implemented. The entries do not have page listings and they are not hyperlinked, so the index is a huge list of topics leading nowhere, and at nearly ninety pages it is too large to search through easily.

What I expected
it met my expectations, in line with Lonely Planet's quality and Amazon's prices and delivery service.
