As a life long knife collector I had a good idea of what I was getting involved in with getting this knife. It is beautifully balanced and takes a good edge quickly.Being 440C I was well aware that it is not a super steel and would not take an edge like my snob steels or be as tough. That being said, this is a very friendly steel to work with. It gets a good working edge with minimal effort and keeps it for a respectable amount of time.If I was in the sticks with a super steel and no way to sharpen it if I damaged it I'd be bummed. If I was in the sticks with this knife and damaged the edge it would be a very doable thing to reprofile it with things nature provides. This is a very well thought out knife/steel build. This build is a prime example of how 'ultra' isn't necessary for an excellent knife.

Super Slicer
This knife is well balanced and beautiful. The micarta scales are very comfortable and the fit and finish was dead on. The cast 440C blade is thick along the spine and is flat ground to an EXTREMELY sharp edge. The sheath is kydex, fits perfectly and was well thought out.I will probably get a leather one made as I prefer that.I feel that this is a great fishing and camp knife as well as a SUPERB slicer that would be a rock star in anyone's kitchen.

Missed the target
It's a nice cutting tool, the blade is robust very thick maybe to thick, it has weight to It. shaped like a bushcraft knive which I liked but I think it is to thick for its size. Would've like it more if it had a 1/8 of inch thickness on the blade the handle could have been a little thicker. Over all it's a good knive.

she is a keeper!
Excellent blade for the money. Well balanced. There isn't nothing wrong with 440c when the heat treat is done correctly,Spyderco handles that process very well. Don't believe what you read on blade forums, this knife is capable of batoning and any other task you put before it. It's very stout. I use it everyday at work. Didn't come shaving sharp, but sharp. After a few passes on fine grit it was ready to go,I think I've stropped it once since then this has been within one month of everyday use. Cast 440c scratches very easy so be prepared to have a knife with character,Spyderco states that in the warranty info. I highly recommend this knife!

WEIRD expensive knife.
THE GOOD: it's sharp. It's well made. It's 440c cast is unique and that's what makes it cut so well.THE BAD: Heavy knife, no finger guard, handle is slick - easily fumbled. It does not come to hand well.THE VERDICT: I'm not sure what this knife is good for. It's not a good fighter, camp knife or EDC. It seems like a unique "boutique" knife - kinda for knife snobs. For the price you could get a superb fighter, a "bushcraft" (camp) knife, and a Swiss army knife. In my opinion, this thing isnt for anyone who really needs a sure gripped, safe, comfortable, or affordable knife. I really wish I hadn't bought it. I think this thing is a train wreck. It's somebody's art project it seems.

Not worth it
4.6 inch cast 440C steel knife for $175??? No amount of casting and heat treating will make it worth that much.

Micro
Cast 440c molten steel poured into a mould you get tree like structure in the steel very strong and it leaves micro serrations along cutting edge. This aids with cutting fibrous material, good for meat processing, the geometry of the blade work s well with timber I've tried, handle might be bit short for big hands ok in mine I take large in gloves, handle would suit most, people have said tip looks a bit weak. I say it lends more use to a otherwise strong survival style knife. Sheath and clip very good lots of scope for different carry. I altered the grind to a convex which seems to suit its style. It has a tendency to show every scratch so if its a drawer Queen you are looking for this is not it, it's a user I have about 50 good knives and I would not mind a bit if this fell to hand before I went hunting, bushcraft, fishing, camping, a good all-rounder,
