Coraline: A Visual Companion Hardcover – January 6, 2009

Coraline a visual companion is a breath takingly beautiful book dicussing how the classic book by Neil Gaiman and its' movie and stage play adaptation were made. The photographary is really amazing in this book (crisp, sharp, colorful, and fill of life), I don't know why so many people believe they are done really poorly. There is a nice blend of pictures and text throughout the book that it's a satisfing book. Perfect for Neil Gaiman fans, Stop-motion fans, Coraline fans, and even people who enjoy knowing how much effort is put into making something.

It looks like the film will be completely amazing but the visual companion was pretty disappointing. The images are low resolution (72 dpi some of them). And the book only really features the artwork of one of the artists involved. There was an amazingly talented team working on this film and I would have liked to have a selection of artwork from all of them....and I would have liked to have seen that selection at a decent resolution, not pixelated screen grabs. Avoid this book....perhaps they'll re-release it down the track with better quality images (and a better representeation of the talent that was involved).

Great book! Very informative of the movie and how it was conceived. Great colors!

I really enoyed this book. I didn't see the issues with the photographs that other reviews saw. I recommend this book for all stop-motion animators and fans of this wonderful movie.

Coraline: A Visual Companion is beautifully bound and presented but I believed this was an "Art and Making of" book, it's not really? In a way it is but it does not feature much concept art, instead it's mainly text telling you about how the film was made. It's more of a reading book than a looking book. Also it focusses a little too much on the novel, which is interesting but I would have rather seen more about the film.

The book cover for this book is in terrible condition. While it is not torn, it is terribly scratched and scuffed on the back cover. It looks like it has been very poorly treated during handling.The contents are great... I'm excited to give it as the gift it was intended for.. I just wish I had a different cover for it!

I read not so glowing reviews about the book. I suspect that others expected a lot and by reading their reviews, I expected less. I was after the reading material more than the pictures.However, as much as the quality of pictures shared in this book are not the best, I understand why others were disappointed.As a fan, it's a good read if you want to know what happened behind the scenes and how the movie, crew and cast came to be.

The cover is slightly shabby but apart from that it’s great. A all Coraline fans should have this book!

コララインの映画を愛してやまない人が、その裏側をもっと知りたい！というときにピッタリな本。コララインの洋服や舞台を作っているメイキング画像も満載だしカラー画像がたくさんあるので、英語が苦手とはいえ、画像だけでおなかいっぱいになれます。同じヘンリーセリックのナイトメアのほうのビジュアル本は日本語訳が出てますがこちらが出てなくて残念です。個人的には、ナイトメアよりもコララインのほうが、傑作だと思います。色あいとかも、顔面の表情の多彩さも、なにもかも上だと思っています。なのに過小評価されている。アカデミー賞のアニメ部門にノミネートされるも、おきまりのようにディズニー映画がもってっちゃいましたが机の上でパソコンいじってできあがるお手軽ＣＧアニメなんかよりひとりひとりがアナログな作業で、アート作品（ほんとに、コララインの洋服一枚一枚でさえアート）を作りそれらをちょっとづつ動かして撮影していく・・・っていう、そういうものにこそ永遠の価値があります。はっきりいって、くだらなさが加速してる日本におべっか使ってるディズニーピクサーＣＧアニメなんかよりこうした芸術作品を評価すべきだしそうしないと、こうした本当のアートが衰退してしまう（評価されにくいといってスポンサーがつきにくくなり制作されにくくなる）のは、映画界において大きな損失になることは間違いない。アートとして、コララインを再評価するうえでも必須の愛蔵版です！！！！
