Walimex Pro UV filter slim MC 95mm black

It does what it says on the box
I bought this for a new lens to give that bit of extra protection as well is a UV filter to flatten out the water glare and block the UV making skylines more vibrant.

Cheap and cheerful alternative to more expensive filters.
The only reason I bought this item was to add a layer of protection to an expensive lens I own. I broke a 95mm filter on the said lens costing over a thousand pounds and I really didn't want to damage the lens in place of a much cheaper filter. The filter is well packaged in its own box, slim in profile as described and the optics (glass) appears to be ok. I'm sure more expensive filters claim to have better quality glass but to my eyes this one is more than acceptable. At the end of the day I'm sure picture quality comes down largely to the photographers ability, combined with the right equipment, and I don't think this item has harmed either of those factors for me. I will endeavour to attach a photo taken with the filter attached to a 200-500mm lens.

Only OK. Picture quality fine but ...
... after a couple of weeks use the filter started to rattle. When I unscrewed it to investigate, the glass fell out and the retaining inner ring/clip, which is obviously not up to the task came away.I carefully put the glass back into the outer ring, positioned the inner ring/clip on top and with two micro fibre cloths gently but firmly pressed down until it clicked in to place. The glass is now properly held and there is no rattle.Clearly I am now on notice that this may happen again.

absolutly fine for my application
Not a professional photographer , purely hobby - brought myself the Sony 200 - 600 mm lens so I wanted to protect the main lens , I can see no appreciable difference with it on or off and it is protecting my investment from sticky hands , sand , spray , scratches etc - so I'm happy with it

As good as Hoya!
From as tests it appears to be as good a picture quality as my old Hoya Filter (still usable for comparison but a slight chip). The glass is slightly thinner so time will tell if that creates a longevity issue, but my husband is a fussy photographer and so far he is very happy.

This was not new and what is the blue box thing?
This product was not new! The filter glass was filthy and whilst it has cleaned up ok clearly suggest it was used, or at least opened. I don’t know whether this is Amazon or Walimex at fault? What is the blue box image shown on the summary page for the filter? If it is some form of protective box, then my one did was not enclosed in one.
