Really enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book. Some of the stories are too hard core but I love the way Tagame fits the erotic events in a context. I can't wait for the rest of Tagame's books to be translated to English. If you like graphic erotic novels, this is a must have.

Illustrations suited to the gay reader.
This is a brilliantly illustrated book by a great artist. Gengoroh Tagame has created a brilliant collection of stories beautifully illustrated for the gay reader. I do hope this is the start of a series of books and that more will follow in the future.Well recommended.

A key publishing event from Japan's leading "bara manga" artist of hardcore gay-male cartooning
First it must be said that you should put any notions of epicene Japanese "yaoi" comics from your head. Gengoroh Tagame's characters are decidedly hunky, hairy, horny, hypermasculine, and generally a good deal older and more bearish than the yaoi twinks. Secondly, Tagame specializes in BDSM and S&M themes so even gay-male readers hoping for for a little overt erotica or porn are often scandalized by what Tagame characters go through in terms of torture, drugs, violence, and multiple penetration. (If, however, you are already a Tagame devotee, you may find the stories in this anthology a bit on the toned-down and humorous side compared to the strongest of his stuff.) Thirdly, this is a signal publishing event, especially in the USA and Canada where previous Tagame works in English have tended to be clandestine, samizdat-over-Internet confections, unevenly translated, that go under the name "scanlation." This is a class act, a good-quality softbound art book (printed in Canada, and all B&W except for endpapers) that reflects well Tagame's unusual flair for detail and almost woodcut precision of backgrounds and exteriors. Literate introductions by Edmund White and others make this a quite satisfying production. If you know and like the work of Gengoroh Tagame, this is a "must" volume. If you don't, at least you'll be getting a publication without peer in the English-speaking world. But do not expect gentleness. For a MUCH longer review of this seminal (sorry) work, see my review of THE PASSION OF GENGOROH TAGAME AT Amazon (USA).
