All right, I'll try not to make this review too convoluted and drawn out. I live in a very rural area and we don't have any sort of Asian grocery for miles, so I just don't have access to these kinds of foods. I've always seen mochi in various anime, manga, ect... and wanted to try it out of curiosity. Now, let's get to the review. The mochi itself isn't really like anything we have here in the states. About the closest thing I can compare it to would be a marshmallow. Mochi is basically a decently sized, hollowed out marshmallow with various fillings and various coating on top of it. This is a rough comparison of course. The red bean mochi was delicious. It had the consistency of crushed beans (which I didn't dislike at all) and was mildly sweet. It would go perfectly with a beverage like green tea. The peanut butter mochi was great because I happen to love peanut butter. It had peanut butter filling and a peanut crumble coating on the top. Lastly, the sesame flavor is absolutely terrible. I tried one and it reminded me of charred coconut shavings that had lost its flavor. All in all, if you've never tried mochi before like me, and you're wondering what all the hype is about, go ahead and try it. If you're open to new things I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
