Fits Hole Size:3.5 Inches | Size:3-1/2" | Grit Type:120 | Item Length String:13.5 Inches | Shank Diameter:0.310 Inches | Maximum Rotational Speed:700 RPM | Part Number:GB31212 The Flex-HoneĀ® tool was originally created by Brush Research Manufacturing to deglaze cylinder walls in automotive applications. Brush Research embraced the benefits of a plateau finish and pioneered the concept of plateau honing culminating in the introduction of the Flex-Hone tool in 1972. The Flex-Hone has gained many nicknames over the years and including ball hone, ball style hone, flexihone, dingleberry hone, bead brush, glaze breaker and glaze buster. Flexible honing with the Flex-Hone tool produces an oil holding cross hatch pattern and a true plateau finish free of cut, torn and folded metal. Any type or size of cylinder can benefit from the Flex-HoneĀ®. These abrasive bead style brushes are produced in standard diameters from 4mm to 36 inches. Nine abrasive types are offered including silicon carbide, aluminum oxide, boron carbide and diamond allowing the tool to be tailored to finish any base material. A choice of 11 different grit selections are available for precise control of finish parameters. The elimination of peaks results in rapid ring seating, better oil control, reduced seepage in hydraulic and pneumatic applications and provides better seal performance and longer seal life. Successful applications include firearm chambers, shotgun barrels, musical instruments, combustion chambers, air compressors, pumps, valve bodies, valve guides, brake cylinders, wheel cylinders and the list goes on and on. Flex-HoneĀ® tools are also very effective for deburring cross drilled holes, port radiusing and edge blending. Because of its unique construction, the Flex-Hone is self-centering, self-aligning, and self-compensating for wear so it does not require an elaborate set-up or special training. Deburring can be effectively automated and combined in the machining process to allow a complete cylinder finish in one operation or it can be employed as a secondary operation with equal results.

No machine shop? No problem.
I think I spun the tool a little too fast while honing my cylinders, so make sure you go pretty slow when you use it, however the results speak for themselves.

Great! Used for 1970 BMW R75/5 Cylinders.
Used to scruff up some crosshatch patterns on my R75/5 rebuild. Used a simple power drill and WD40 as a lubricant.Bike runs great and new rings have seated in well. No smoke or oil consumption.

Great company and product!
I contacted Brush Research to make sure I was getting the appropriate hone, because the option list is extensive and I wanted to be sure I ordered the correct brush. The staff was very helpful and answered my questions and advised me on the right brush to buy. However the price they told me for buying it direct from them was considerably more than buying from Amazon? So Amazon it was, still their product.I used it with a cordless drill using 5w-30 oil for about 20-40sec. I think it worked great and the cylinders for my Super Beetle look awesome and are ready to go back together. Cheap fix, saving the time and cost of taking parts to a shop for simple honing. Thanks Brush Research.

Perfect crosshatching tool
Bought this to rehone the 3.8 Buick cylinders after trying to use them old stone three arm hone devices. I have no idea why I ever thought that contraption would ever work. This thing is a beast. Takes seconds to use properly and I didn't have a second thought about putting the crank back in and hooking up the Pistons. If you ever plan during your mid-life crisis that you must rebuild an engine, save yourself some time and get this and the next grit under and use these to perfectly hone your sbc or whatever man.

Barely Fit 3.6" bore.
Buy exact fit to the .10" or one .10" largerWorking on a 22r Toyota stock bore 3.6".This hone did it's job with a nice cross hatch. However, the hone just barely hit the bore walls. Maybe this is by design but I feel I should have gotten the 3.75" bore hone as my bore size is 3.6"If your bore is 3.5" then you would be fine. The hone would have a bit of pressure on the bore walls. If you plan on honing a 22r look for the next size up.The balls on the hone wore down Farley fast making flat spots on most the balls. So when you use this you do not want to hone one bore at a time. Make like 2 passes per bore to break in the hone tell you have broke the glazing off the bore walls and broke in the hone, then work on your cross hatch pattern.Over all I like this hone and it's ease of use but the fact that I most likely will not be able to use it again, I may get one more use from it in 5-8 years witch would pay for it self then but a stone hone would be more cost effective. If you build the same 3.5" size bore engine all the time this hone would be ideal. Cause you can just grab put in drill and hone (adding cutting oil).

Excellent product. Brush hones are a very good thing ...
Excellent product. Brush hones are a very good thing to have around and BRM makes about the best ones. The price on amazon is inline with just about everywhere else so can't complain there. I used this particular hone on a standard bore small block ford engine block to hone the cylinders before I installed the pistons and rings. The 180 grit has worked great for me with standard Iron piston rings. If you're using moly rings or something else, refer to the manufacturers recommendation when choosing grit size. I also like the brush hones because you can purchase one for less than a machine shop will charge you to hone your cylinders, and you can usually do more than one block with one. The last BRM hone I had did 5 small blocks and still has some life in it. Take that for what you will. Very good product at a very good price. Definitely recommend for your rebuild or re-ring project!

Worth every penny!
I used this hone on a 2.4l Volvo block to deglaze and put new cross hatching in the cylinders. This hone works amazing and was worth every penny. I was very nervous about doing this myself but after the first one I was comfortable with it. I used a Dewalt 20v drill on high and ran it up and down multile times for 2 passes using ATF as lubricant. The before and after speaks for itself. This thing works great.

Works great I highly recommend. Just Know your bore size š
I do not normally leave any feedback for anything I purchase. That being said I purchased 4.10" honer for my LSX/LQ9 block. I had machine work done last summer to make it a stroker 408 c.i.d. so got the motor back with work and with getting ready to open the new shop I haven't had time to mess with it until now and it has been sitting wrapped in plastic in my shop for about a year. When I pulled the plastic off of it I was a little upset to find it all rusted up especially when I coated the entire motor in heavy weight oil. You gotta love the SC humidity.Anyway as you can see from the first picture how rusted and bad it was, after using the flex home it took about 10 mins to do the last 7 cylinders. even without me cleaning the cylinder walls out with solvent and a rag it truly does look like it did when I got it back from the machine shop last summer. The next 2 pictures when I was done and again I did not wipe it out or anything yet. I just took one with and without flash on my phone so you can see. This did not mess with the bore size it just cleaned out the rust and imperfections. All that being said I just saved another trip to the machine shop and a few hundred dollhairs. I am in the process of opening up my motorsports company here in SC and that money saved can be used in other places. I šÆ recommend this product for any small shop or car enthusiast that can't afford machine shop prices or the machining equipment.I hope this helped anyone that is looking for a solution.
