GERMAN MODEL 1898 PIONEER SAWBACK BAYONET & SCABBARD The longest of the WW1 German bayonets primarily associated with the Pioneer troops and NCOs. This ‘Sawback’ bayonet was the infantry’s best chance of reaching out and touching the enemy before they could slice you. The Mauser Gew98 rifle looks wonderful with this bayonet mounted and the saw teeth are effective at cutting, but primarily used as a mark of distinction for NCOs who coveted them. Potmetal junk
What a piece of junk... the piece won’t even fit my Gewehr 98 because the cleaning rod slot was too narrow; had to drill the hole larger and was surprised to find out how soft the metal was when drilling; I doubt if it had any heat treatment... Certainly not worth almost $100! I wouldn’t even pay $20 for this.
