Works, but needs usability improvements.
I was able to get this working on a Cisco 88xx, with AKG buds. Make sure it's on dip switch 4, and the 'mute' button is down (not up). This is not marked. That part was counter intuitive to me, and took awhile for me to test through. Also ensure the volume control is in the middle of the dial, as the marking as to which direction is 'louder' is stamped in, and mono-color, black, same as the casing. As to my headline, I agree this device is essentially 'set it and forget it'. However, I would have liked to have been able to use it on day 1 by reading the instructions or markings. After numerous failed test plans, it took time to come up with one that covered all the possibilities.

DIdn't work with my cisco phone
Tried using this with a Cisco IP phone but couldn't find the appropriate setting. No matter what I tried callers could hear themselves and/or I could hear myself very loudly. Ended up getting a dedicated headset which worked great. This is an interesting concept but turned out not to be compatible.

Mic doesn't work.
This thing should be exactly what I want and need. 3.5mm TRRS headphone (with Mic) connection to an RJ9 headset connection, with a volume control and even a mute button. Unfortunately, even with 8 different settings, it appears to be incompatible with a Yealink T23P. I can get the audio, but it doesn't send through my mic, which is the same situation I was in with a cheaper patch cable. The whole point of this was that it should be a universal adapter, and one of the switch settings should have given the correct pin-out to make the mic work. Nope.I would be very grateful if anyone would care to reply with a product that performs the same function (3.5mm TRRS to RJ9, volume control, and actually works for the mic on a Yealink phone, don't care about the mute button as much) so I can finally get the headset I love to work with the phone I am otherwise very happy with.

Price and quality balance
Very easy to install and works perfectly with my Nortel T7208 phone. I love the mute feature and that you can control volume. Who needs a super expensive headset when this product exists? Just plug and use your regular headphones. I love this solution.

I really wanted to love it, but even on max volume it's simply too hard for people to hear me and I have a hard time hearing others. I think I need something else. (using with Shoretel ip230)
