Not nearly as touchy as most mattes. I Always used Testors Dullcote. This blows dulcote out of the water. It's instant, dries quick, and even in suboptimal Temps, while doing a rushed, sloppy job (I was in a pinch), the finish was FLAWLESS and velvety matte. Not an ounce of sheen. Seems pretty durable, too.I've been totally converted

I love Tamiya products, and this one is no different. I use it to seal D&D miniatures and custom doll faces. The main problem I have had with other clear coats is that they dissolve the acrylic paint I use for projects like these. However, as long as this is properly shaken up it has never so much as smeared a detail. It coats perfectly matte, and dries quickly. I have found that you can often get away with a single coat as well, which saves time and money.

After doing a ton of research, this seems to be pretty much the best matte clear coat out there for miniatures, but the bottle size leaves a bit to be desired.

Yes, it will change the color of what you spray it on, but that matte finish really does look good. Whatever you do, make sure you have GOOD LIGHTING so you can tell if you've got an even coat! Very easy to spray too much and end up with a bit of pooled yuck! The black wings look especially gorgeous once coated.

Used on the OUTSIDE of a factory pre-painted Vaterra Ascender '72 Chevy K10 - made it look miles better, exterior is more resistant to scratches than the plain Lexan is. Coating scaler bodies in matte (or "flat") clear reduces the overwhelming glossiness that tends to make Lexan bodies painted on the inside look somewhat toy-like and unrealistic... Remember to mask off the windows, however!
