Game. Changer.
Was wondering what all the fuss was about air fryers, but knowing our kitchen has limited counter space, I thought, nope--not going to get another counter gadget. Then I started wondering--aren't air fryers just convection ovens in a small space? We already have an oven with a convection setting as well as a nice toaster oven with a convection setting. No harm done ordering an air fryer basket and tray pan and giving that a try. First thing I made was a combo of broccoli and carrots in the oven using the convection setting--which turned out beautifully. Then tried french fries--which we liked, but are not exactly crispy. The clencher came when I used this air fryer basket to make CHICKEN WINGS. Holy moly! That's the key--best. chicken. wings. ever. And they are not fried. A game-changer. If you do get this and make wings, be sure to sprinkle the wings with baking powder (not baking soda--baking powder) and salt before baking. The wings come out perfectly--juicy inside, some crispy bits and chewy outside--and absolutely DELICIOUS. Since then, have also made roasted peppers (perfection) and a few other things. Fun to experiment with and no loss as this item is way less costly than an air fryer. Lastly, it's easy to clean (but don't put it in the dishwasher--just soak and scrub--no biggie).

Works great. Tough to clean wire basket
We have Gotham pots and pans so the air fry baskets was a no brainer. It is kind of tough to wash the wire basket but does a great job in our oven with air fry feature

Works and cleans up as advertised
I acquired all 3 sizes to fit the different meal sizes I work with. First off, it's beautiful with the copper color and extra smooth finish, and aesthetically it just makes it feel better to use than all the other trays I have used. The first thing I tried to make is Bacon. I used the largest basket 16.5 X 12.5 but it was too short to cover the standard bacon package of up to 11 pieces. This package had only 9 pieces and I had to squeeze each piece up to make it all fit. The edges were touching which is a no-no as the pieces will cook together at the edges and be difficult to separate at the end of the cooking cycle. The flat tray with no basket I normally use is considerably longer and can accommodate a full package of eleven. The basket width is a little short also as the bacon strips are typically 13" long. The cooking went great! I got the recipe online at the Gotham Steel website to give their product a fair shot. Simple enough, 400 degrees for Oven bake at 15 to 18 minutes. PERFECT! All the other recipes I have ever tried using all different oven temperatures and cooking times have never worked out well as stated but this one was right on! Cleanup is a breeze as advertised with just a quick wash with soap and water! The only con I have is a safety one in that there is no easy and safe way to grab both the basket and tray together for removing from the hot oven. It's a little scary as there is nothing solid to grab onto to confidently hold them together. You have to be extremely careful not to squeeze too hard or you can literally flip the basket right out of the tray onto yourself. There should be some kind of mechanism to lock them together. Other than that, a GREAT PRODUCT!

works well other than cleaning
Overall, this is really great for making air fryer recipes with a convection oven. After 3 years the copper coating is chipping a bit, but is still usable. The only drawback for me is that when I go to wash it, food tends to get wedged between the basket and its frame, which take some effort to clean out.

Love Gotham Steel Crisper Tray XL !!
I had purchased another version of this product that was made by Copper Chef. I used it in my Breville Smart Oven Air. It was smaller than the Gotham Steel Crisper XL and worked well at first. I then noticed the 'coating' beginning to peel off with each use. It also was difficult to clean and, contrary to the advertised commercials, food stuck to the surfaces and was hard to clean off. After having to wash it by hand, I then put it into the top rack of the dishwasher. After several months, I was too concerned about the health effects of the peeling coating to continue using it. That's when I decided to try again, but with the Gotham Steel Crisper Tray XL. This tray fits about twice as much as the other one. For a point of reference, with this tray I can make up to 12 chicken wings at a time vs only 6 with the smaller Copper Chef Crisper Tray. However, the BEST thing I love about the Gotham Steel Crisper Tray XL is that after about 3 or 4 uses, it is actually living up to what the commercials advertise! Food barely sticks and cleans off with some liquid soap and only a paper towel. I then place it on the top rack of the dishwasher for further cleaning and it comes out looking like new; no peeling coating and no staining. It also cooks the food effectively. I did not expect it to be exactly like an air fryer, but the food comes out juicy and delicious and crispy enough on the outside. After my negative experience with the Copper Chef Crisper, I didn't want to take any chances, so I do line the bottom tray with tin foil. However, when some grease did leak through, it wiped off very easily without any sticking or staining. So far, I am thrilled with the Gotham Steel Crisper Tray XL. I'm always skeptical with products advertised on infomercials, but this one.........thus far..........seems to be living up to the claims.

OK a long as you are not serious about fried foods!
It's just OK. If you want an air fryer for your regular/convection oven, it works well enough. Nothing will ever replace frying or even a real air fryer. It was cheap, relatively easy to clean and store, and makes something that resembles french fries without the sin. BUT: No instructions. No recipes. The box directs you to a website to download recipes, but that website does not exist. Conflicting instructions on the web vs. the box it came in, regarding oil or no oil. Ditto, the dishwasher. So, unless you want to replicate frying a lot and very well, it's not a bad option, but otherwise, save your money.
